Play calls like that had me thinking the saints were throwing the game. You took olave (who you traded up for) off the field so you could toss a deep ball to Kirk Merritt.

Was the worst call made by Pete all night, let that sink in.
Was even worst than the 3rd and 1 slant.
In both cases, the clock was your friend. But, Pete decided to usher up his SP Genius WTF play call.

If it's the play I am thinking about, it was either a terrible design or someone also ran the wrong route.
Had the WR essentially running a go (Merritt?), Taysom ran a deep out, and the 3rd player running a route (Prentice?) in the shallow flat. If Taysom runs a drag across the middle, he had inside leverage and would have been an easy check down. I did not see the route from the shallow guy, so don't know if he would have been in position to run a slant.
They had all 3 eligible receivers between the numbers and the same sideline

My biggest issue it the fact that no WRs (Merritt is a RB) were on the field for a passing play. I get you were going for disguise and trick lineup, but with a bunch of guys that never do it in a game. Run QB power 3 times with Taysom and get a 1st. Its simple football.
ETA: You do this on 3rd down in the middle of the 2nd, not with the game on the line.

1st pick is gone, it aint ever coming back, but having the 1st pick in the second round is way better then the mid teens just because you are butt hurt they gave away or 1st pick.
NO MATTER WHAT, YOU STILL NEED THE HIGHEST DRAFT PICKS YOU CAN GET FOR THE PICKS WE STILL HAVE LEFT.
