I’d be surprised if he lands anywhere. Gambling on your games would constantly be changing over his head.,

I’d offer a 3rd or 4th for him
If some team wants to bid higher go for it

Definitely do not want-
1. It would negatively affect Shough’s development. Shough may or may not be the future. But, if you take a bold step to bring in a young QB right behind him, it cannot be a confidence builder. He has done everything to earn trust since he got to New Orleans. This would be spitting in his face.
2. I have nothing against the kid, but let’s be real. He only admitted to his issue when he was caught, went to a 30 day rehab, and has suffered very few repercussions other than not getting to finish college. When someone is an addict, the worst thing for them is to be bailed out from consequences. There has to be some pain in order to motivate recovery. Whatever NFL team gets him is likely going to be in a gambling scandal. I don’t want that to be the Saints.
3. He’s more of a gifted runner than a passer at this stage of his development. For him to improve, he needs the full focus on his development. How would that happen when you have two other young QB’s- Shough and Rattler who need development.

Falcons and Cardinals seem like the obvious landing spots.

I'd put in a 3rd for him

That's not how it works anymore. Unless by pro caliber you mean top half of 1st round.
Big boy colleges (and TT is aiming to be one) can pay better than the NFL for 2nd round talent.

Jets have plenty of draft capital. I could see them taking a swing with a 2nd or 3rd rounder.
Teams that need a QB/future QB: Jets, Vikings, Cardinals, Steelers & Browns.
Some teams with QB questions: Texans, Dolphins, Panthers & falcons.

Welcome to the year 2026, when the Saints starting QB Tyler Shough is scheduled to earn a total cash payout of $1,331,124 and carries a salary cap hit of $2,455,618.
Sorsby was being paid $5 million by Texas Tech.

Would much rather Sorsby on a rookie contract than Penix or Tua, and the rest of their roster is too good to get them a top 5 pick in next years draft.
I'd put in a 3rd for him

He's not nearly as good as people have started talking him up to be for no other reason than they get to do some bonus draft hype. He's got some talent but 61% completion and had a number of stinkers last season. Some qb desperate team will spend a mid round pick on him. The Saints putting up anything would be fricking retarded.

27 touchdowns and 5 INTS. Ran for 600 yards and 9 touchdowns. I would say pretty solid

Shough has only started 9 games. Yes, his play was encouraging. Yes, the Saints clearly believe at this time he could be their QB of the present and the future. But 9 games is not a big enough sample size to ignore potential talent/competition at the position if you (a) think Sorsby is a good prospect and (b) can get him at a pretty "cheap" cost (2027 late round pick)

He's not an "addict". That's just the BS Texas Tech threw out there to try to support their court attempt to get him eligible. Basically, they tried to frame it as a "medical condition" for which an eligibility waiver was reasonable. Sorsby did what probably thousands of college age males across the country do every Saturday...bet on college football games. That doesn't make them "addicts". Hell, I doubt he is the only active college player who has bet on games involving his own team. He's just one of the few who have been caught doing it. That's not said to absolve him from breaking the rules and the ultimate NCAA punishment. It's just to say that the guy is not an "addict". There will be a bit of bad negative press from the attention seeking media, but that would eventually die down as the media moves to some other attention seeking cause.

He'll get an opportunity to "develop" just like most later round QB picks...in practice. The Saints aren't really trying to "develop" Rattler. He's just a cheap backup who has starting experience and experience in this system. He doesn't cost much to keep on the team and there isn't a robust trade market for him. So why not just keep him on the roster? If someone offered the Saints a 4th - 5th round pick for Rattler the Saints would trade him immediately.
Sorsby would just be added competition. For as promising as Shough was last season, he's not yet an established NFL starting QB.
Personally, I wouldn't add Sorsby because I don't think he's more valuable than a 4th-6th round pick for the Saints next season. But I can see a reasonable basis why others would disagree with that.

Dude was betting balls and strikes at Reds games and calling people to put in his bets when he couldn't use the app in Texas. Best case he's a degenerate gambler.

The only thing I can think of is the Alabama baseball head coach telling someone to bet against his team shortly before announcing he was scratching his starting pitcher against LSU & Paul Skenes

Appreciate different viewpoints. My response to your responses:
1 and 3. Teams have less practice time than ever before. Realistically, it’s not possible to adequately develop QB prospects 2-3 at a time. It’s why most teams get a young prospect and an older veteran (ie Mendoza and Cousins in LV). By crowding the room with similar talents, you run the high possibility of no one developing. QB development seems to be the secret sauce in the NFL right now. Several QB’s who were “busts” on the team that drafted them are quality starters on other teams. The talent is there for Shough. Just needs patience and support….not competition that causes him to overthink.
2. I’m a mental health professional. Gambling addiction is a real diagnosis as of 2013. You may not believe it but there’s people who still don’t believe clinical depression or ADHD is real. There’s people who think the world is flat or only 6,000 years old. People can choose to not believe scientific, factual evidence. I just hope that the Saints leaders are people who make calculated decisions based on known facts. The facts in this situation are that this young man likely has an untreated addiction and is seeking to be in the middle of temptation. It is highly unlikely that he will not relapse.

If tweet fails to load, click here. Sorsby’s attorney to pursue the player’s rights with the NFLPA. Sorsby is not a member of the NFLPA.
In the NFL’s letter to Sorsby, they site the CBA as giving the NFL the sole right to determine whether to hold a supplemental draft.
