Saints putting money where mouth is: they’re planning to place 1st-round tender on restricted FA QB Taysom Hill, per source, meaning NO will have a chance to match any offer sheet he signs with another team or get back a first-round pick. Saints plan to re-sign him soon anyway.

First-round tender for RFA QBs is expected to come in around $5 million for 2020. But the Saints believe they’ll have a deal done with Taysom Hill before free agency, when another team can sign him to an offer sheet.

We’re gonna have to beat all those first round offers off with a stick.

I'd take the first rounder

I reckon this is more about keeping him for cheap for another season, then reassess everything else next season

Bengals might be stupid enough to give us the #1 pick for Taysom. We can dream

What’s the cost of a first round tender for a gunner?

I honestly would of liked a 2nd round tender and if anyone signs him they could have him. Getting a second rounder for him would a good deal. Nobody is gonna sign him to a contract and give up a first round pick.

Nobody was gonna sign him to a second rounder either. People are living in fantasy land about hill. He’s great at what he does. What he does is not play qb.

right, so if someone is crazy enough to actually do it why would you want a 2nd instead of a 1st?

Obviously Sean wants to keep him around. I’m not sold that he can or cannot play qb but if Sean thinks he can then I want to see it. The offense would need to be adjusted to his strengths so the playbook would look different. However, I can see it working with weapons around him. At worst he really came on as a runner and a receiver at the end of the year and is effective in all the other positions he plays.

Cause it’s more realistic for a team to be willing to part with a 2nd. Point is if rather get something for him.

I completely agree with this: although i think Payton is up selling hill to bait another team to roll the dice, hill would be interesting to watch if given the chance. I just don’t see it. I think what he does now is exactly what he should be doing and he can have a hell of a career doing it.

Guessing the deal is done before FA, so nothing to discuss. If not, 1st round tender should lock him up. I really do not see another team stepping up at the price, unless there is another SP mentality out there I do not know about. He fits here, like no other.
