The emergence of Werner and the return of 5 makes Demario go absolutely fricking nuts

He’s so fricking complete

And to clarify I’m not saying best career. I’m saying best player

no

He's a great player. Probably the best on the roster right now (hard to go through different positions, Lattimore is up there).

He's not the best linebacker in Saints history. Dome Patrol, Vilma, etc.

He had a great game. Those guys did, too.

Scoob,

U literally could only name 1 other linebacker.

If I’ve got to put Davis up against ETC. I like my chances.

Rickey Jackson
Pat Swilling
Vaughan Johnson
Sam Mills

aka The Dome Patrol

Johnson is generally considered the weakest link of that group, and he made "only" 4 Pro Bowls. He didn't rack up sacks or turnovers, but routinely crushed ball carriers.

Someone mentioned Rickey as a pass rusher, but Swilling was the primary one in that group. He was the NFL Defensive POY in 91.

edit to add- I didn't think I had to actually list the Dome Patrol members by name, on a Saints board.

Swilling couldn’t defend the run or set the edge to save his life. Mills was undersized, Johnson was slower, Jackson was the man and they played great as a group but Demario is better than all four individually.

Scoob,

If we making a list of all-time individual great Saints defensive players, I think being able to list their individual names is an important criteria.

Pat & Vaughn were great, in real life & tecmo bowl, but IMO they aren’t in the RJ, Vilma, Davis category.

I know Sam deserves to lead the list but the whole going to the panthers thing always sticks in my craw. Personal preference we’ll call it.

I remember his last year for the Jets I was watching them play one of our divisional teams and rooting for the Jets. I can't remember which one they were playing but you could tell even then DD was a man among boys and didn't belong on the fricking Jets. So glad we got him

They were all 4 good so commonly many fans just mention them in a group "Dome Patrol" It's easier and some of us are lazy

I think it's funny; don't take this personally, but it's the stereotypical generational rivalry thing.

This guy is the greatest ever, and downvote you if you agree.

There's no denying that Davis is playing great and a joy to see, but calling any current player the best ever is always an emotional reaction to the moment. Calling a current Saints linebacker the best in team history... that's a tall order.
Linebackers have been asked to do different things over the years, so don't go on about how this guy covers more, or that guy is more complete.

If you saw the games live, you saw just how dominant the guys from the Dome Patrol were, individually as well as the group. If you didn't, then sometimes it's best to look at awards and recognition; let me know when Davis is selected as NFL Defensive Player of the Year, or when he gets selected to the Hall of Fame.
And I truly don't mean that as an insult to Davis.

But it's ok, let's just be glad we can have these conversations. That means we have a good one now.

Best in the Peyton era followed by Jordan, Vilma, Sharper 2009.
Best of all time might be a tough sell, but im just letting you know im here to support your claim.

He can go sideline to sideline, he can cover, and he can blitz and hit. He can do so much more than Rickey Jackson, Vaughn Johnson, Pat Swilling, or Sam Mills. And, he is durable. I would take him over any of the great Dome Patrol linebackers because of his versatility and how he can read what the offense is going to do.
Sam Mils and Vaugh Johnson were run stoppers. Rickey Jackson and Pat Swilling were pure pass rushers, but neither were as complete as Demario Davis.

As a unit they were the best. None of them were as complete as Demario Davis. Demario can do so much more than any of them could do individually.

Rickey was far and away a better pass rusher. But Demario is so balanced.

So was Rickey. Go look at his stats, then actually watch his games. Rickey jackson is the best player in NOLA history.
