Brooks had the talent to be better IMO. He did good things for the saints and helped get us out first playoff win. If he had more drive, he could have done even better for us IMO.

The reason most people don't like him was because he didn't seem to care when he played bad. His last 2 seasons with us were also not too good either.

They shouldn't. Its down right sickening how a black qb who starts out having any level of success is shoved down our throats. This isn't much of a issue anymore, but in the past it has been. Rush Limbaugh was dead on with what he said.

Bring on the hate, I don't care

He could never put it all together. I think he gets too much hate. Doesn't help what he said after Katrina.

He had something crazy like 15 4th quarter comebacks. Once he got that big contract his scrambling days were over.

In 2007 my buddy ran into Jim Haslett at the mall. Told him it's not your fault Brooks is an idiot. Haslett thought that was pretty funny.

For me, the frustration is from the potential he showed when he got his first starts and he seemed hungry. But once he was locked in at starting qb, he seemed to get lackadaisical...that's what was frustrating to me. But that said, I don't hate the guy.

Solid post and spot on.

He sucked pretty hard at the end and all of a sudden it's about race?
No, we hated him b/c he sucked.

yea, had nothing to do that we played zero games in our home stadium, and played home games at 3 different venues that year. Or that our best player on offense tore his ACL in week 3

Ahh, Aaron Brooks... a ton of memories from his era with the Saints! The first season that I started watching football, back in the 99-2000 season was when Aaron Brooks took over for Jeff Blake when Blake got hurt. He started out his career with the Saints on a great note, putting up great stats and of course, leading the Saints to their first ever playoff win. But as time went along, Aaron Brooks came to symbolize what the Haslett-era Saints were: Mediocre. At times, the Saints were on fire and could hold their own against any team in the league. On the other hand, there were times in that era when they were pitiful, playing like complete crap with no consistency whatsoever. I'll never forget the 2002 season, when the Saints were 9-4 and only had to win one of their final three games against teams who were already eliminated from playoff contention to make the playoffs. They lost all three games and didn't make the playoffs. That sums up the Brooks era. He had talent, a great arm, and all the tools to succeed as a pro QB. What he lacked was consistency and tended to make bad decisions with the football. As far as him being the scapegoat, he was the quarterback, he's next in line after the coach to receive the blame and criticism when things aren't going right. The Katrina season was a disaster all around, but that one nightmarish season would be a blessing in disguise for the Saints( The arrival of Sean Payton and Drew Brees, along with draft picks like Reggie Bush, Jahri Evans, and Marques Colston, who would all contribute to the Saints winning their 1st Super Bowl). Aaron Brooks' career ended on a bad note in Oakland, where that team was so horrible all-around that there was nothing Brooks could do to turn that team around. My final perspective on him: talented player who did some good things for the Saints, but he could never take the Saints to the promised land.
