No one said he is going to sit 3 years but sitting now & probably for the majority of the season is what's best for his potential long term development.

Do you really want the laundry list of rookie QBs over the past 15-20 years forced into playing early on bad teams who ruined before their careers ever had a chance to get going? The list might take TD down for a few minutes if posted it's so long.

They sat behind legends, high picks and very good players. That is the point.

Aging legends who already had a foot out the door with those organizations. How soon people forget how Favre was holding Green Bay hostage with his threats to retire every year. Again, it's all irrelevant based off the argument that continues to made here that you have to play a rookie QB especially if drafted high because "you have to see what you have in him."

I will ask you once again to answer my question.

Your question is a bullshite straw man question that doesn't deserve an answer.

Last time I checked, football was a team sport & the talent surrounding Rattler on offense is below average. I mean Rattler should have never dropped that pass in the endzone on his second to last throw according to you since the entire offensive production or lack thereof falls completely on his shoulders.

If Rattler doesn’t start killing it, then yes we need to play Shough. However, the coaching staff needs to determine when they think he’s ready - or as ready as he will be - to see the field as the starter. Setting an arbitrary number of games before going to Shough isn’t how it works. If they’ve seen enough of Rattler and think Shough is prepared, then he starts this week. My only caveat to that is you likely try not to start him on the road, especially clear across country, IE @Sea or @Buf.

This is one of the most rational & reasonable posts in this thread.

If he sits all or most of this year we are going to pick a QB in the top 5 next year.

So we celebrating “ average “ now?

No, some are appreciative that a young player took a few steps forward and don't dwell on the negatives like some of you people. Rattler's p[sitives outweighed teh negative and for a young QB in a new system under a new coach thats an individual win.

People crucified Carr, who was above average, but are willing to settle for below average I guess, as long as it's not Carr?

Carr was a 9 year veteran when the Saints signed him. Carr was who was at that point in his career. Rattler is a 2nd year QB with 7 career starts who is still developing. Something is seriously wrong when people can't see the difference in the two.

Only he didn't. He hasn't looked like he progressed at any point at all.

His comparison is beyond retarded. If Brees was back there sure, tell shough he isn’t going in for a while. Rattler is hot fire garbage.

Don’t tell em Derek Carr started 0-10

13 TD
9 INT
59% comp
76 rating
5.6 Y/A

I would be prepared to make a call on Rattler after seeing a few more games under Moore. I don’t really care what he did last year

And the organization is probably going to still pick a QB top 5 if Shough does play or not.

Then Shough should have beat him out.

The organization that picked him 40th probably cares. The organization that will have to spend a top 5 pick after spending a 40th pick on an old guy probably cares.

Shough is going to start several games this year.

Its also funny that your point has evolved from Rattler is good enough to be the starter to protecting Shough, seemingly indefinitely.

I think people are having a real hard time understanding what this season is.

I've been consistent in my stance, and I've said this since before training camp: Rattler would start the first four games, and then Shough would start game 5, or he won't start until the bye. Those are the only two spots to get Shough in. It will be one of those two.

Rattler is a sacrificial lamb to get Shough ready. That is it.

Everything else is smoke and mirrors.

If Shough needs "protecting" at his age, then he isn't the qb for us anyway. Throw him out and see what we have. Sink or swim.

The only thing I can see is he hasn't gotten fully up to nfl speed yet so they are likely more protecting the offense from Shough than Shough from playing "too early".

The Cardinals drafted Josh Rosen 10th overall in the 2018 draft.

A year later Rosen was traded to the Dolphins not long after the Cardinals drafted Kyler Murray 1st overall in 2019.

You think anyone in the organization truly gives a flying frick about a project second round QB if they are picking top 5 next draft with the opportunity to upgrade the QB position. The answer is frick no.

The Saints are going to be picking top 5 in the draft no matter who on the roster plays QB.

This has been my stance for years surrounding rookie QBs. I made posts about this very topic on this board when there were pre draft rumors back in 2017 about Patrick Mahomes. I said it over & over again the Saints were a great opportunity for Mahomes because he wouldn't be pressured to start right away & he could develop behind the scenes.

Cmon man lol
It is so much better and fun to watch.
1. No pressure for the season
2. No Dennis Allen or Pete
3. No Carr
4. Salary cap is better than in a long time

Just imagine as the game starts watching Dennis and Carr on the sideline. Makes me feel good for the future.

The first four games are pretty tough, and there is value in a QB seeing what the speed looks like, what timeouts look like, what adjustments look like on the sideline and the coaching conversations, etc etc

5 and 6 are against teams that aren't as good.
