I understand what you’re saying. I’m just genuinely curious how long you give a guy to determine if he has something or not.
Shough and Rattler are the same age getting their first NFL starts, one would think the expectation is the same with both, if not higher with the 40th overall. Having a quick trigger with Rattler only sets up the same questions with Shough

More like tha staller, offense continues to stall with him in red zone when it counts

We wonder how many games he gets but I think it's not so much Ratt on Sundays as it is Tyler during the week.
Spot on.

If we hadn't picked a guy 40th overall, I'd give him all year since this year doesn't matter anyway.
But we picked a guy 40th overall so the leash is as short as they come

People crucified Carr, who was above average, but are willing to settle for below average I guess, as long as it's not Carr?
This!!
And Carr was VASTLY better than Rattler. Not even fricking close

Confirms about what I expected
Saints highest graded offensive players, per PFF:
1. Erik McCoy
2. Spencer Rattler
3. Kelvin Banks Jr
4. Kendre Miller
5. Devaughn Vele

I’m not saying Rattler is going to be the answer, but speaking in absolutes after 7 starts isn’t recommended.
Exactly. There's no way anyone can rationally give a definite absolute answer on what Rattler is as an NFL QB. He's inexperienced himself surrounded by subpar skill position talent. That's the point I see attempting to made by the majority of rational & reasonable posters here.
I keep seeing & reading posts & threads to play Shough to see what you have in him but 95% of the time when organizations are void of much overall talent & they force a rookie QB into playing, the negative on field results usually end up scarring & damaging a young QB. This always comes to my mind when I've seen other organizations throw young, inexperienced QBs to the wolves when they aren't anywhere near being ready.

That's nice and all but we have a new coaching staff that picked a QB 40th.
That doesn't mean jack shite. Aaron Rodgers sat for 3 years. Jordan Love sat for 3 years. Patrick Mahomes sat for a season. Those guys all went higher in the Shough & sat. Just because a team spends a 2nd round selection on QB doesn't guarantee a frickin thing. People are acting like Shough was a top 10 pick or something. You can tell this fanbase isn't used to drafting QBs nor familiar with how these situations normally pan out.

Shough is sitting behind an inept looking 5th rounder. It's not even fricking close to the same thing. xD

Rodgers sat behind Favre. Love dat behind Rodgers. Mahomes sat for a year behind Alex Smith. Shough isn’t sitting behind anyone respectable or worth a shite. Rattler just threw the ball 46 fukin times and barely passed the 200 yard mark. He threw awful balls all game and then almost got his best WRs head knocked off. There was nothing that happened yesterday that should tell anyone that rattler has it. He wasn’t very good. His leash got shorter imo.

I will ask you for the 30th time:
What sample size should Rattler get?
If he plays similar to how he is playing, should he get all 17 games? Some next year too?
Take a stand.

Behind Brett Farve and...Aaron Rodgers
Mahomes sat behind Alex Smith, a former #1 pick that was a decent start for years.
I have no idea what point you are trying to make. You keep bringing up people like Darnold (1st rounder).
How. Many. Games. Should. They. Start. Rattler?

Bunch, do you move on from Shough if he sucks for 7 games?
By the time that they decide to make a change, Rattler will have had 10 starts (st least). Shough will get the remaining games (13ish) and he SHOULD get more of a look because he is a 2nd rounder vs a 5th.
With a 13ish game sample, you should be able to at least make a decision on whether you need to draft a QB in the 1st or not.
That gives Rattler 10 starts and Shough a little more

Yeah, I just don't understand some of these people on here.
You cannot go through this entire year without getting a very good look at Shough, unless Rattler just starts absolutely killing it.
it can't happen.

Rodgers sat behind Favre.
Every year at that point Favre was threatening to retire & GM Ron Wolf was growing tired of it.
quote:
Love dat behind Rodgers
Rodgers attitude was wearing on the Packers which is why Love was drafted in the first place. It was just a matter of when Rodgers & the Packers would split once Love was drafted.
quote:
Mahomes sat for a year behind Alex Smith.
Alex Smith was nothing more than a game manager who had by then maxed out his potential.
The point remains that all 3 of those drafted QBs sat for 1-3 years & were better off because of it. That's the point. All that other nonsense is irrelevant.

He is average at best. Nothing more than that.
Posted on 9/8/25 at 1:40 pm to BigBrod81
They sat behind legends, high picks and very good players. That is the point.
Yes they were better for it.
We are not in that situation. Shough isn't going to sit for 3 years.
I will ask you once again to answer my question.

The only crickets that are chirping are the ones about you answering a question.
I don't care what PFF says.
he's a 5th rounder. He's 0-7. outside of one game that we lost by 4 scores, he hasn't scored 20 points on offense in a game.
We drafted a guy 40th overall.

quote:If Rattler doesn’t start killing it, then yes we need to play Shough. However, the coaching staff needs to determine when they think he’s ready - or as ready as he will be - to see the field as the starter. Setting an arbitrary number of games before going to Shough isn’t how it works. If they’ve seen enough of Rattler and think Shough is prepared, then he starts this week. My only caveat to that is you likely try not to start him on the road, especially clear across country, IE @Sea or @Buf.
