I agree, but something is really wrong.

quote:

Unless he's just lucky, teams rarely have the types of players already in place to run the kinds of schemes that coordinator will want to do.

Maybe or maybe not. Mike Nolan and wade Phillips switch teams from 4-3 to 3-4 and have success. Talent plays a factor, but with Spags We knew it would Be a transition, but this is pathetic.

For example, Spag's defense is dependent upon getting pressure with your front 4

You ever think maybe ny front 4 covered for Spags flaws? His d wasn't successful in st. Louis, either.

quote:

New Orleans's front 4 is designed to stuff the run and is not very good at rushing the passer.

Well we are not good at stuffing the run either. You can argue that may be the biggest flaw, stuffing the run.

quote:

If Spags can get better pass rushers, his defense will work better.

Football 101, you can make that statement for every defense in the league.

He's been awesome for us in previous years. Off the top of my head there are 10-12 teams he would be at best a 3rd corner.

Not one of our defensive backs is even close to approaching "solid" play

I don't want to go off topic from op because this could be its on thread.

I disagree, but maybe you can convince me. Name the 10-12 teams who have three better corners than greer?

He's been solid even though he's not healthy. I will say Greer is one of most underrated players in the nfl the last few yrs.

When Micky comes back he will get Spagnolo the personal he needs. I for one am looking forward to seeing Micheal Strahan and Osi in a Saints uniform.

I do not think he should be fired. I mean his defense can only go up from here (lol i hope)

I am giving the entire team a pass this season. All the BS we have had to deal with. I think we now see how important Payton is to our team.

I know he is not the Def but he is the head coach.

As far as his player not playing in his system. Maybe the front office has told him to keep running his system and find out who can play in it and who cant.

Not a fan of P-rob. Patrick and White are both very young so maybe they can become better.

But then again if you have zero pass rush makes it hard on the secondary

you are right. even college teams know this. load the box and make teams have to pass to beat you...do not let them do both on you. What we are going through is mind boggling.

I don't think Spagnuolo should be fired. A lot of people are saying its the personel but he was hired to work with the personel we have so for me he isn't getting a pass for how bad they have been this season. Our defense wasn't this bad the last few years. This defense is giving up record numbers. It's not like we can gut the "whole" defense starting next year.

Let's repeat it --

The WORST DEFENSE IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL.

And, let me give you three words to PROVE you are completely WRONG --

LOU F*CKING TEPPER.

Having players learning the system and getting a little better week-to-week is one thing. But, we're getting worse every f*cking week. We're f*cking ranked 32nd and losing ground on 31st.

So, yeah, in this case, you can judge it by the first year.

Good god man. What is wrong with people.

This just in: The Saints are having a bad season. And it is due to an unprecedented and unbelievable set of circumstances affecting every singel player and position on an off the field. Get over it. Yeah it sucks, but it isnt a reason to clean house on a franchise that has consistently made the playoffs as a legit contender and (i'm not sure this is correct, so sorry if im wrong) won a superbowl.

serious answer: you are dumb

this ain't Philly bro

it's not the scheme. It's the guys who they run out there. Now that's not giving him a pass but whoever thought those dogs on D would fit this defense should be beaten with a wet noodle

Quickly a list of teams with 2 corners better than Greer. I said he'd be a nickel

NFC west - 4
NYC - 2
Chicago
Green Bay
Atlanta
Denver
Philly - as bad as they've been
Dallas

And he is our #1 CB. Pathetic. He's a number 2 on a good day.

These players suck. It's not spags

He had unreal talent at Giants and they gave up 80 points and over 800 yards his first 2 games before they started dominating.

With this group of players, it will take a year plus 2-3 stars to get anywhere close to what he needs.

he sucks giants d was good when he got there. There was three guys we had to choice from this year and those two guys went into a sorry stitiuation and made them good. Falcons d looks alot better and denvers has improve . We had our chance with them but peyton went with a friend and now is getting burn. I hate spags defense cause he leaves alot of players open. mark this down he will be gone.

WTF?

38,26,24,23,27,36,30,23 was the points given up in the last 8 games of 06.

Not counting the first 2 games where they were learning his new scheme they gave up more than 23 points 4 times and winning the Superbowl.Spags is a great D Coordinator but he needs players to fit his scheme. The Saints dont have that.

I just wanted to see what teams you would come up with. It's a subjective topic. There's a few players you could easily argue hes better than on the teams you listed.

I agree

It is also his fault. Last yr d finished 24th in defense. This yr we are dead last not only in the league, but we are statisically the worse defense in nfl history. With the same lack of defensive talent as last yr.

From 24th to worse in history. I would say Spags is contributing to this crapfest.

I'm not giving up on Spags, yet. It's hard to determine if he was lucky because he had one of the best d lines in ny. The question is, did he improve ny and make the d line better or did the dline cover Spags flaws? I know when he was the hc in st. Louis the d was subpar.

Its easy to have a great front 4 and you only have to rush 4 and drop everybody in coverage. Its every coordinators dream, but what adjustments or how good is he is he doesn't have one of the greatest dlines?
