Nothing would give Goodell the finger more than signing big name FAs, and getting Parcells to come in as interim coach.

He would have to be hired as Interim HC. The other benefit of Parcells is that he will have instant respect from all of the Players, Coaches, and Front Office.

This. The interim tag would solve the Rooney rule problem, correct?

Nobody said he was going to explicitly tell anyone not to hire him or not to take the job. But a call highly advising against it may have some sway.
Thank you

Nice!

atlants fans agree completly with SAS. The super bowl win would be tainted and in need of a double asterik.

Parcells vs smitty...

As in "this could affect your HOF possibility" type call?

We really have the most interesting team in the NFL.

..and I thought I'd be bored this offseason. It's like old school WWE storylines every week.

I don't understand why we need Parcels to babysit this team but if that's what Payton wants... then I'll support it.

I don't think that Goodell has much sway over Parcells and the decisions that he makes. If the league tries to stop him from accepting the job, that is a lawsuit waiting to happen. This cannot hurt his legacy.

The only thing that Parcells would want other than a chance for another Super Bowl is to go into the Hall of Fame and Goodell doesn't get a vote on that.

This. Every year it's "well, season is over....free agency is cool for a week...draft is cool for a week...blah, blah, blah"

This is the best soap opera ever!

I don't think we "need" it, but I don't see it being hindrance. To have someone coaching this team with THAT resume can't hurt.

I don't think babysit is the right word. They guys on the Sports Hangover are speculating that his role would be that of a baseball manager. They also pointed out that with Parcells GM experience he could fill in while Loomis is suspended.

Legitimacy at the Head Coaching spot. Keep the ducks in a row. Allow the assistants to do what they do without any additional burden. Keep players in check not that its a big issue. Another vet coach to help access personnel and all for the year. it's a beautiful scenario IMO.

I meant from the aspect of Goodell saying "I know people that can get you in or keep you out" type thing.

The media already hates Parcells anyway. At least one would think they do the way he treated them over the years

I love the Falcons fans replies

"He failed in Dallas..."

He took that grease fire of a team that Dave Campo had to the playoffs with Quincy freakin' Carter.

Just so Carmichael could focus totally on the offense and Spags, a brand new guy in the organization, could focus on the defense. Both guys have alot on their plate, especially Spags with the defensive suspensions coming and signing of new players while trying to initiate a new system. Parcells knows how to handle the other tasks of being head coach better than either of these two and with his current state, it'd just be a natural fit it seems.

I saw one person said we have the most interesting team in the league, and that seems very true. 20 years from now we'll all look back very fondly on the Payton/Brees era as the Golden Age of the Saints

Drew is going to keep this team in line anyways. Will be the easiest coaching gig tuna has ever had.
