this was a good pick and hey second round is still in reach we have three third rounders. We can use free agency to get a lolb and a receiver. We did good. Not really a good free agent running back out there. Deanglo williams was going to miamia anyway. We did good.

I don't get it, at least you guys didn't trade back and make a horrible mistake like missing out on two good 5 techniques.
Can't believe you all passed on Jordan. Again, I fricking love him as a 4-3 LDE, but he could have been a Seymour type player for you guys.

Yeah Albert haynesworth agrees. Plenty of vets have gotten paid and quit.

Belichick out masterminded himself.

I will wait to see what we do with PT and RB before I weigh in on this pick any further, and also what the rookie pay scale will be in the new CBA. But slo is correct. That was a lot to give up for a position that there are many many serviceable players.
The question isn't ingram or no RB at all. The question is whether it's better to have Ingram. Or a serviceable RB + a 2nd round talent at OLB + a late first round OT next year.
Even if you assume the best case scenario for Ingram (1200+ yards), his value over a replacement player isn't that great. there are dozens of running backs capable of rushing for 800 to 1000 yards per season in the NFL. We see it every year. 3rd and 4th round guys becoming the focal point of an offense and putting up numbers.
No one is saying that Ingram isn't a stud. He is. I like him. But what we re saying is that drafting and perpetually building the franchise is about maximizing and squeezing the most value out of EVERY transaction, and never mortgaging the future for the present.
That said, if we re about to get reg at a steep discount, let go of Pierre, and the new CBA slots this 28th pick pretty cheap, then this deal looks less costly.
Now let's get a lb.

Last late round SEC Running Back the Saints took

Posted on 4/29/11 at 10:25 am to L S Usetheforce
I really see a restructure with Bush and a trade of PT to New England (just like what almost happened last year for that cb)
hell, we may already have a deal pending with NE regarding PT...

Thomas' Contract
The four-year deal averages $2.8 million per season.
The Saints didn’t give Thomas a signing bonus, but they structured the deal to include something similar. Thomas’ $640,000 base salary for this season is guaranteed, and he’ll also get a $2.7 million roster bonus. Unlike a lot of deals, this one isn’t back loaded. Thomas’ biggest salary-cap hit will come this year when his figure is $3.4 million.
In 2012, Thomas’ base salary will jump to $2.16 million and $860,000 of that is guaranteed. He also has a $100,00 workout bonus, and his cap figure will be $2.6 million.
In 2013, Thomas’ base salary will be $2.1 million. He’ll also have a $300,000 roster bonus and a $100,000 workout bonus. His cap figure will be $2.5 million.
In 2014, the base salary will be $2.5 million. Thomas has a $300,000 roster bonus and a $100,000 workout bonus. His cap figure will be $2.9 million.

I'm a huge PT fan, so I wouldn't like this much.

Another fantastic draft move by ML & SP. And this RB won't be giving up his Heisman trophy down the road. If we can get this ground game going no one will stop our air attack.

Thanks! That's a decent deal for PT. It does seem to make Reg expendable. if the saints are ready to roll with Ingram and PT I'm okay with it,
I stand by the rest of what I posted. It's a lot to gamble on. That said, I do think Ingram is a stud. And sometimes you can't get cute. You cant wait. You just go out and the player you want. At least we didn't trade a 5-1 like the falcons.

Green Bay takes Ingram...no questions, at 32. The deal had to be done.

was anxious to get your take
I actually had Jordan mocked to NE & Ingram to them at 28
I was blown away they passed on both
Sure, building up picks is a solid strategy but there comes a point where ya should go quality over quantity. I thought the idea of NE using some of their capital to move UP and get a high impact Fairley or Quinn would have been perfect

I like that we got Ingram, I have to admit I agree we gave up to much for him though.

Just out of curiosity,
If you could go back in time, to when news of Saints/Patriot trade happens..
Who do you pick in that situation?
