Falcons fans don’t travel
The Falcons and Saints both have a large African-American fanbase, and in the 60s, 70s and 80s (and to a good degree today) most were working-class folks without a college alma mater to cheer for. Ergo, their hometown NFL team became the football team they supported.
Those black folks would travel EVERY YEAR to see their team play their arch rivals. It was the ONE away game most of them would attend.
I remember those huge numbers of black Falcons fans at Saints games in the 70s, and when I moved to Atlanta for grad school I saw the same thing in reverse.
