Should we be worried about this?

Why would you be worried?

This team isn’t competing this year. You understand that right?

Actually benefits the Saints at this point... soooo Loomis is gonna frick it up now.

We can really evaluate what we got before paying him. Win/Win.

You're a dildo.

They will compete for the NFC South.

More importantly long holdouts can cause unnecessary drama.

The Saints have no other choice but to sign him. There is nothing to worry about.

He’s 26, Saints will cave and give him what he wants and if not Shough will not sit a year to go back in the draft and risk being a 5th round pick at 27.

Rattler should take that job.

This. Shough has zero leverage. Whatever the Saints offer is the max he'll get. Saints should play hard ball, he'll sign eventually. Its still June after all.

You can thank the Texans then the browns for giving their second round pick the first fully guaranteed contract for that draft round. Something like 30 second round players have still not signed their contracts as they now all want the same

Didn’t realize there was an entire thread on the first page explaining all this

I’m amazed we even hired a coach or even drafted a class. We should have just hibernated for 15 months

Surprised there is only 1 thread about it, because it is at least the 3rd time it has been discussed since rookie camp.

But at least a new thread gives a little activity to the board.

I think most of the 2nd round isn't signed because of the offset language battle.

He participated in everything all summer.

There is no reason to worry unless he misses camp, which he won't because he would effectively be giving Rattler the starting job, and he's not 21. He really has no time to waste

Found an interesting article about it, a few days old.

As has been stated the major holdout is because of the contracts for the 1st 2 picks:
quote:

The Houston Texans got the ball rolling on this year's second-round signings by giving 34th overall pick Jayden Higgins (the second pick in the second round) an unprecedented contract on May 8, a day before the rookie minicamp started. Higgins became the first second-round pick in NFL history to get a fully guaranteed contract.
The Cleveland Browns quickly followed suit the next day with Carson Schwesinger, the first pick in the second round, by also fully guaranteeing his entire contract. Without the Texans breaking new ground, Schwesinger's deal may not have been fully guaranteed.

It then goes on to state that the rest of the 2nd round is now looking at Shough who is trying to use his leverage as competing for the starting job to get his fully guaranteed:
quote:

The second-round signings have come to a grinding halt because of 40th overall pick Tyler Shough, who was the eighth player selected in the round. According to sources, Shough is insisting on a fully guaranteed contract since he is expecting to be the New Orleans Saints' starting quarterback for the 2025 regular-season opener with Derek Carr recently retiring.

These deals from Houston & Cleveland may also leak into the 3rd round because of Shough's "leverage" on the Saints
quote:

Jalen Milroe and Dillon Gabriel are the only 2025 third-round draftees who have their contracts structured with minimum base salaries in the final three years where the remainder of the salary for these years is in training camp roster bonuses. The Seattle Seahawks and the Browns selected Milroe and Gabriel 28th and 30th, respectively, in the round.

The agents representing the players taken with the third through seventh picks in the second round are in a holding pattern given that they are well aware of Shough's contract demands.

And the bigger piece of this is the pressure from the agents and NFLPA. Because if Shough, the rest of the 2nd round, Milroe & Gabriel have any success, this will leak into next year and we could see the first two rounds fully guaranteed next year, then a similar holdout situation in the 3rd after the 2026 draft

If you think they will compete for the NFC South and you think Shough is going to be the QB leading them to that result then I can see why you are concerned.

Personally, I think this team is going to struggle mightily and there will be no practical impact to the team or Shough if he signs late.

This is the truth, but this board doesn’t allow for real and facts based discussion in June. Give it 2 months and once it’s obvious to all how putrid Loomis’ roster is in the preseason games we can get back to facts based discussions with corrective measures required.

Don’t worry.
He is already immersing himself into the community by coaching children.

He is a Saint.

His agent is doing his thing.
