I could see this thought process.

Excited to see him with some prep with the 1's (if you can call them that). There was a great breakdown of his film from Sunday online with the overhead view, route concepts, progressions and read breakdowns. He was actually making the correct reads and throwing with anticipation. I was kinda impressed. We shall see.

Every former QB talking head says live action is the best route for these guys

Further, Shough was billed as the most game ready QB. He’s 26 and played in Brohm’s pro system. There should be no more babying him from here til the end of the season

Maybe a little sooner than anticipated (I thought it would happen during the bye week)...

But we'll get 2 (and nearly a half) games of tape on Shough to evaluate during the bye week and see what's best after that

Can’t do worse than Rattler.

NOF was talking about the fundamental difference in how Shough and Rattler, specifically about risk tolerance. The scenario the used from training camp was a 3 level route with a corner a deep hook and a flat route. They said Shough would take the corner route and work his way back down, while Rattler would ignore the corner, take a look at the hook and probably throw the flat route.

They both agreed he would make some dumb rookie throws, but that the big play mentality is definitely there with Shough.

First start @ a tough Rams defense that can really pressure the QB? Ouch!

I'm thinking a lot of younger guys need to be seeing more reps, for evaluation purposes.

Yes! Rattled sucked donkey dix!
Shough is probably also terrible, maybe even worse, but I’ll bet he reaches his first win before Rattled did.

It was time IMO. Rams have a great defense. We shall see how it goes

I would have preferred to wait a week, but that became difficult after they benched Rattler last week. So I get it.

I expect he’s gonna struggle badly against the Rams. The later schedule is a lot easier and I think he would have been in a better position to succeed if we waited for the bye…but I guess we’ll see.

Yeah, Saints not doing Shough any favors with his first start on the road against that defensive front.
Guess it’s sink or swim.

I thought Rattler has played very well, besides the last two weeks. He does not have much to work with. I definitely do not think he is our franchise quarterback, but I do think he is the one to play this year.

The fact is this was never going to be our year.

Rattler started turning it over. We already suck and can't afford that. We'll see what Shough can do.

Ratt got the 1st, 3rd and 6th ranked defenses last year. He’s gotten 4th, 5th, 6th this year.

43% of his career starts vs top 6 defense.
93% vs defenses ranked in the top half of the league

All that to say, there isn’t an easy path in this league for a first time starter. If it isn’t the Rams, it’s someone else. Like the falcons have a top ten unit, you still get them twice too.

Shough will be fine

The funny thing about this is that Shough’s greatest weakness on his college tape was how he panicked under pressure and threw ducks. With a clean pocket he’s pretty damn good. Between our OL and the Rams great defense, he isn’t gonna be many clean pocket this weekend. I expect a lot of turnovers personally.
