The Pro Football Writers of America announced today that New Orleans Saints tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. and quarterback Tyler Shough have been selected to the PFWA All-Rookie team. This is the first time multiple Saints have been named to the All-Rookie team since the 2019 season, when three players were selected and the first time two offensive Saints were selected since 2017.

sometimes the drafts are so bad that somebody has to make the team.

Take 2003 for example:

2003 was just an awful year for DTs. Kevin Williams was a DE his first season so while he was a borderline Hall of Famer at DT, he made the All-Rookie team as a DE.

Other than Williams, No other DT in the class made a pro-bowl. Aubreyo Franklin and Dewayne Robertson were the only 2 DTs to start more than 4 seasons at DT.

They basically just gave it to the 2 DTs drafted in the top 10 and called it a day.

Anthony had a decent rookie season and Davenport flashed with 4 sacks but he got injured that season

Sullivan is more questionable

I guess after looking up their stats they each did have pretty solid rookie years.

Poo poo after that though.

Most important thing on the 2025-26 list is that they picked only 1 QB.

Jonathan Sullivan and Stephone Anthony

Edit: I just went back and looked at Anthony’s 2015 rookie stats.
112 total tackles, 1 sack, 2 FF, and 1int.
I’ll be honest… I dont remember him having anywhere close to that solid of a rookie year.

Anthony was playing very well under Ryan, as he knew how to scheme around what the players did best. Once he was fired Allen basically told Anthony learn my playbook or gtfo, which while he was very physically gifted, he was not the brightest guy out there.

Ryan got so much faultless heat (outside of not telling Sean to go frick himself when Sean mandated we start running Seattle Cover 3 Zone after Ryan just had the boys top 5 in 2013 running his man blitz scheme). He actually knew exactly how to fit everyone in to contribute but all Sean saw was how dominate Seattle's defense was and wanted to copy it at all costs (remember Stanley Jean-Baptiste in the 2nd round?).

Edit:
And on the people knocking Davenport, the talent was always there and he showed enough his rookie year that he was legit. Sadly it was just injuries that fricked him over (and over and over and over).

Sullivan's first year was decent, but not the dominant force everyone expected him to be. Iirc word was he was lazy as frick, lost his starter job because he was out of playing shape, and then just faded away.
