Senior Bowl First Look

should have a lot more star power than the EWS game...
Five guys in desperate need of putting on a strong showing in order to help their draft stock at this year’s Senior Bowl-
-QB Jake Locker: Washington
The sky was the limit for Jake Locker coming into the 2010 season after being a potential candidate for the first overall pick last draft.
-QB Christian Ponder: Florida State
He was banged up and bruised for the majority of the year, with injuries ranging from an achy shoulder to bursa sack problems to a sore elbow, all of which really took away from his velocity throwing the football.
-WR Niles Paul: Nebraska
he needs to display better concentration as a receiver, as he exhibited too many lapses and simply has a tendency to put the football on the ground in big situations.
-CB Shareece Wright: Southern Cal
Possible Saints Consideration
DL Allen Bailey: Miami
For a guy his size, Miami DL Allen Bailey is one heck of an athlete. He’s a long-armed kid with natural power in his lower half, runs extremely well in pursuit and can consistently make plays off his frame. However, when evaluating his play this season, he’s not a real playmaker or natural pass rusher on the outside. For his size, he has a good first step but not good enough to routinely threaten the corner. He doesn’t use his hands real well to gain inside leverage and disengage from blocks, and he doesn’t anchor vs. the run and play off blocks as well as you would expect. He’s simply a much better athlete than football player at this stage who has some upside, but he is going to need some work. I actually think he might be better suited to play inside as a one-gap DT where he can simply knife his way up the field and make plays before they start. Therefore, this is a big week for Bailey to prove he can be productive vs. top-tier competition if he hopes to get drafted as high as his physical skill set would leave you to believe.

Guys I'm watching in bold above.
In addition, I'm keeping my eye on:
Christian Ballard DL
Andy Dalton QB (not that we need him, but I've been saying to keep an eye on him for over a year now)
Sione Fua DL
Roy Helu, Jr. RB (great downhill guy who I feel was sorta misused at NCAA level)
Cameron Jordan DL
Jeremy Kerley WR (could be that Reggie-type Swiss Army knife + Kick Returner)
Bilal Powel RB
Lawrence Wilson LB
Chris Neild DL (late round sleeper)

Some big names have pulled out of the Senior Bowl all-star game, including Iowa defensive end Adrian Clayborn, University of Florida offensive lineman Mike Pouncey, LSU defensive tackle Drake Nevis, North Carolina linebacker Quan Sturdivant and Kansas State running back Josh Thomas.
updated rosters
-----------saw a list of former 1st Rd picks in the Sr Bowl, 10-12 the last 4 years, 15 in '06

Clayborn and Nevis seem to have the most to lose out of that group IMO. Lingering injuries or the thought of a fresh injury is always an issue in all-star games. The CBA issue also plays into effect here.

I think Beal gets a TON of 34 OLB love. I know Patriots fans want him BADLY.

LSU defensive tackle Drake Nevis,
likely a mistake

North Carolina linebacker Quan Sturdivant
big mistake (unless his injury is flaring up)

Kansas State running back Josh Thomas.
mistake, unless he's rated a lot higher than i imagined (which may be true)

No bias, but I agree. He's going to be a good pro. Good fit with the Saints, IMO.

Herzlich weighed in at 6'3" 250 and was supposedly jacked.
Amazing, considering what he's been through.
Helu was 5'11" 216
D. Murray 6'0" 214. He seems to measure a lot bigger than he looks
Kerrigan 6'4" 255. Light(ish)
Paea 6'1" 295
Kelvin S. 6'2" 250
Von Miller 6'2" 237

Miami DE Allen Bailey, who a lot of scouts might be better suited to sliding iside to DT, only weighed in at 278 pounds, pretty much putting the kibosh on that notion. As a result, that could cost Bailey some spots in the draft as he was slipping on a lot of draft boards around the league as just a DE.
Oregon State DT Stephen Paea, Wisconsin OT Gabe Carimi and Arkansas TE D.J. Williams were all as much as 15-20 pounds lighter than expected which could cost them a few spots come draft day. On the other hand, guys who at least passed the proverbial 'eye test' included S Quinton Carter, who was described as "ripped" and RB DeMarco Murray both of Oklahoma, DTs Jarvis Jenkins of Clemson and Baylor's Phil Taylor; Indiana OT James Brewer; LSU LB Kelvin Sheppard

on of the LSU players I've been most excited about seeing make the switch in a long time. Extremely smart player who I think would do very well with this organization.
