quote:Do you think a 1st is comparable to what the Saints will pay him in 2021?
You should google what starting nfl QBs are making
If you told a team they could have Hill at the contract he signed or at a min contract and a 1st, which would they choose?

This contract is about locking him up 2021

For a ridiculous price.

Glad he signed the extension. Don't care what they paid him.
Not going to second guess an organization as successful as this one has become. What I do know is that good things happen when he's involved in a play. This tells me along with everything else that has transpired that they want him even more involved . Makes sense to me.

For 1 year

I’m not a fan of the price at all but this was about that extra year. I know they say they’re confident in Hill but this will allow them to truly see what they have next year without being locked up for multiple years

You'll just get downvoted to hell for suggesting that JW is not the automatic #2 heading into the first game.
I think it's likely but far from being a lock.
I mean it's crab legs for goodness sake.

I get it. But crab legs also threw for 5K and 33 TDs. He also threw his fair share of picks but now many #2 QBs have a 5K season under their belts? Take all the backup QBs in the league, let them throw as many passes as Jameis and I bet they have even more INTs and even less TDs.

I have no idea what his role is for that amount. He must be adding in some LB and safety snaps this year too.

I said months ago that JW was worth a shot if he stowed his ego and came to work like Teddy did.
Damn if he didn't do it.
But he's the #3 qb till CSP says otherwise.
Love the get and hope JW works out.
CSP is getting a QB whisperer rep and that's awesome going forward.

How is it a 1 year $16m deal?
He's looking at JUST the guarantees and is mistaken.
This is a legit 2 year, $21 mil contract. We have zero reason nor leverage to cut him after this year, even if he isn't the starting or backup qb.

I seriously doubt that. What was Taysom going to do, hold out? This is simply taking care of him for 1 season. Maybe you don’t like it but this isn’t a vote of confidence going forward.
If he held out he would just be a rfa again, a year older, and a year out of football shape. There was ZERO chance of a holdout.

Our TE also played QB in college. Jason Vander Lann.

If someone thought he was worth $8-10 mil a year?
Lmao
AND they would have had to give up a 1st. For a 30 year old player still unproven at qb.
And it likely would have had to be $12-15 mil per for us to likely not match.
That's why no one offered. Not because he isn't worth what we paid, but because another team would have had to pay more AND give up a 1st on a guy that has maybe 10 years left as opposed to a draft pick that potential has 14-20.

Most of the guarantees are in year 2. So no.
In 3-5 year deals you can say it's really only a 1-2 year deal. 90% of 2 year deals are 2 year deals, and being that most of the money in his deal will come year 2 that is the case here.

He wasn’t offered because no one was losing a 1st rd pick for him.
Whether it was $5mil or $12mil.
That’s why no one even kicked the tires
And again, my responses were based on the theoretical that I originally responded too.

Bidding started at $4.6mil
No. One. Even. Offered.
Because first and foremost they would have had to give up a 1st for a player that would be 6-10 years older than a rookie, and bid high enough so the Saints wouldn't match.
