re: Saw what I expected: Saints are rebuilding and need 2-3 more Draft Cycles

You do realize they were in cap hell when Drew & Sean were here. Difference is, they were winning because of Drew & Sean.
Exactly. While Drew was declining and had lost a lot of arm strength, he was still one of the best in the NFL. No one was complaining when Payton was restructuring contracts because we realized that as long as we had Drew, we had a shot.
Hell, we made two really good runs at the end of Drew‘s career. On one occasion, I don’t think there’s anyone in the fricking world that doesn’t think we were fricked out of a Super Bowl by the NFL. There is no fricking way on God's green earth that seven motherfricking cocksuckers masquerading as referees miss the most obvious and INTENTIONAL pass interference penalty.
As soon as Drew and Sean left, we had nothing. Any competent GM would’ve realized that we had sold our future to make those runs and now payment was due. That’s the point where we should’ve started rebuilding. First thing we should’ve done is gotten rid of bad contracts, even if we had to take hits. We should never have been restructuring the contracts of older veterans who are close to the end of their career. We should’ve traded them and got a couple draft picks and moved on. As far as the little talent we had, we should’ve looked at trading them and gotten either good inexpensive players (who are still on their rookie deals) or higher round draft picks.
Instead, Loomis kept restructuring contracts until we used up any ability a player might have (think Cam Jordan). I love Cam Jordan. I think he’s been a great player and a great addition to the community, however, we should’ve traded him at least three years ago when we still could’ve gotten something for him and we didn’t have to overpay him to be on losing teams
Because of all of this moronic fricking restructuring, we’ve been a mid-level team at best getting mid-level draft picks. There was no fricking way we were going to win anything. It has put us behind for years. We could have already come out of the other end of rebuilding and be competing if Loomis hadn’t fricked us for the foreseeable future.

Jonathan Goodwin, Shockey, Vilma (via trade), Demario Davis were good moves as well.

the point remains that FA needs to be an addendum to what we do via the draft, but that hasn't seemingly been the case

We just need to add quality pieces via free agency & not try to go for game changers. Find the game changers via the draft.

It's been awhile since the organization had money to spend in free agency.
Just look at how far back we are having to go in discussing free agents that were signed.

Don’t think we have to worry about that this year TBF.

agreed... so many of their FA moves seem like they are more out of desperation than decision...

Not only that but having money to retain some of the younger players that priced themselves out when they hit their prime contract instead of having to go for the older replacements.
I just want to have flexibility in general.

Not sure the fan base realizes this will probably take AT LEAST 3 years.
By the time we get to the 15th week of the 2025 season… the natives will be pissed and yelling for heads.
Wouldn’t be bad if Loomis was fired. :)

‘Member when the Saints went 3-13 in 2005 and went to the NFCCG in 2006? Oh yeah, I ‘member.

They need 2 to 3 high draft picks. Top 10 at the worst top 5 would be even better!

Ok……King George
So are you telling me you are comparing the roster talent on the Saints 2006 NFCG Team to the talent on the current 2025 Saints Team ??
And you think the Talent levels are EQUAL for both teams ??
And you expect Saints to appear in the 2026 NFC Championship Game next year ??

Only way to acquire multiple high 1st rd picks would be trade away their Top 5 pick in 2026 …. to someone trading-up to acquire a Franchise QB.

You sir, MMauler are 100% correct.
The idiots on this board have their head up their arse and carry water for that loser Mickey Loomis, just because he was part of the Super Bowl from 16 years ago. NOLA people are perpetually stuck in a rut.
Win once that you are a made man for life.
The way that Teddy Bridgewater and Jaimes Winston are still talked about on this board are nothing short of revisionist history and nonsense.

2-3 more Draft Cycles

Well,
It will take 2-3 draft cycles to greatly improve the team “IF” you actually “HIT”
on your draft picks and they become good players.
If you don’t hit on the picks… it will take much much longer.
Ask the Pelicans…. Yeah, they acquired all kinds of high draft picks via the Anthony Davis trade but they “missed” on many of them and Pelicans are still rebuilding.
Yes, the pelicans have other problems too …. but you get my point !!

Good picks good.
Bad picks bad.
You move fast hard to keep up.

I think we are further away.

My point isn't that if we miss on the draft we could be screwed. I'm saying that we could have good drafts for 2 years and still be pretty damn far away.
