Cliffs:

quote:

Beasley averaged 2.9 yards of separation in 2018, better than any qualifying Saints receiver. Compare that to Michael Thomas (2.7) and Tre’Quan Smith (2.2).

quote:

Beasley would give Brees something he badly needs: a legitimate second option on reads who can get open in two or three seconds after the snap. Beasley excels with the ball in hand, averaging 3.4 yards gained after the catch. With Brees attempting more passes short of the sticks, big plays must be generated after the catch by receivers.

quote:

(Beasley) averages out to 57 receptions, 589 yards, and 4 touchdown catches last year. For comparison, Tre’Quan Smith and Keith Kirkwood combined for 41 receptions, 636 yards, and 7 touchdown scores as rookies.

quote:

Other talented slot specialists litter the free agent market...But Beasley may be the most affordable, which will be important. K.D. Drummond of Cowboys Wire estimated a contract for Beasley in the range of $22.44 million over three years. Those are numbers the Saints can work with, rather than the $10 million per year other free agents expect to draw.

I tend to agree with this. While I'd love to see Golden Tate in a Saints uniform (mainly so we just don't have to play him anymore ), I just don't know if we can make it happen financially. I've always thought Beasley was a talented receiver, and he could be significantly better with a better QB.

When Prescott took over in 2016, Beasley went for 75rec, 833yds, and 5 tds. Thoughts?

I'd love to see the Saints sign Beasley or Humphries

quote:

WR Adam Humphries, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Listed at 5'11 and 195 pounds, Adam Humphries has the ideal size for today’s slot receiver in the NFL…Watching him on tape, he shows great quickness horizontally and excels in the underneath routes. In particular, the Bucs used him often on the shallow cross where he had a knack for finding holes in zones…Humphries could aid the Saints offense in that he runs a lot of high percentage routes that wouldn’t require difficult throws from Drew Brees. He also adds value with his yards-after-catch ability. That dimension has been missing in this offense since the days of Lance Moore and Willie Snead. Humphries could be an option to bring that back.

Saints potential free agent targets: WR Adam Humphries

I like it, let's do it. I watched every Dallas game after they beat us hoping they'd lose and this frickin' guy was unstoppable.

why cant they sign beasley and still go after more help?

it seems reasonable if beasley signs they could "maybe" trade someone under contract for "something" or just outright release them and free up the money they were getting to offset some of the beasley money

i dont think anyone here would argue that we are very much in need of receivers who can create space. whatever the skills of the guys we have, they arent getting separation.

If he can be pretty good with Prescott he'd thrive in our offense. I'd be really happy with him or Humphries

Would have to be short term. He will already be 30 by the time the season starts. Definitely wouldn’t give him more than 2-3 years.

I really like humphries and he’s a good bit younger.

I am actually for this. If he can get wide open in the Cowboys system then he can do even better in our system with Brees at the helm. That being said, he is a strange dude. He even has his own rap album. Also check out his wife. Very interesting guy. I say sign him.

Humphries

I'm also a fan. He had similar numbers this year to Beasley's 2016. I know 2016 was a while back, but I just keep using that because it was Dak's best season.

Humphries is 25, so he's likely to want a longer contract and will likely be more expensive. That said, we may be able to get a backloaded deal done with him? Regardless, these are my two favorite realistic receiver prospects, unless the FO can pull something out of its arse and make it work with Tate.

First they need to bring Ingram and Okafor back plus give Peat a long term deal so he doesn’t hit the cap for $9.4 mil this season. We won’t have much $$ to work with this year so Beasley would be as good as I’d hope for. Humphries will land a contract around $40 million. I’d offer Beasley 3 years $20 million with the contract backloaded heavily.

Not worried financially, they can make the moves to free it up easily.

But I'm hoping we can somehow land:

Beasley or Humphries - locks up wr2
Suh, Wilkerson, Grady, Irving or Richardson - locks up one DT spot
Cook, eifert, or swaim - depth at TE

Renfrow would be my first choice too and would be much cheaper but we don’t have many picks and I think he may get drafted a little earlier than people think.

Grab both Beasley and Tate. You basically have 1 more year with Brees go all out.

I'd love to have Cole. He's that dependable, smaller white receiver that we need.
