Rattler has to be developed . He has a QB friendly coach in Kellen Moore . Let’s see what he can do . I am for giving him a chance .

We’re all in for giving Rattler a chance while recognizing he was putrid as a rookie last year.
The reality is Moore is going to go with Shough because of the draft capital invested.
It’s still the worse QB room in the NFL so I’m expecting about 17 points per game with most of that in garbage time when the games are already decided.

Rattler has done NOTHING to demand that he has EARNED the starting role. He has NEVER been consistent, going back to his days at Oklahoma……which is one of the reasons why he was replaced.
He was in South Carolina under the same regime the entire time he was there (still inconsistent). The year after he leaves the team immediately improves, and were more competent on offense with Sellers under center, and Sellers was very inaccurate at the start of the season.
Rattler was a 5th rounder for a reason

This nowhere near close to being the correct story of what happened at Oklahoma.

Yes it is, Caleb Williams came in and by the Texas game had beaten Rattler out forcing him to South Carolina.
I get we have to rally around our guy but there is a reason we targeted QB early in the draft. It’s because Rattler isn’t viewed as the long term answer. He can make a nice living as a career NFL backup but that’s it.

Just like all your posts are, this is inaccurate & leaves put a bunch of other details so STFU.

It’s so sweet how you jump in SO hard to defend Rattler

It's not so sweet how you are consistently a shitty poster.

Rattler’s OU tenure in irrelevant now, nobody needs other details. He’s in the 2nd year of a cheap rookie deal competing for a job.
The odds are heavily stacked against him for the reasons described earlier (Shough 2nd pick and Moore’s guy), but he has a chance. Your pumps here aren’t going to get him the job he has to separate in huge way on the field from Shough.

It's basically an open tryout for two guys (Haner is not an NFL QB. He's a relic of the prior mindset which was always trying to find the next undersized, physically limited HOF QB...instead of accepting Brees was a rarity).
I don't know if I'd say Shough is "Moore's guy", as much as he was, for Moore and the Saints, the best QB available at pick 40 in what was regarded as a very weak QB draft class. Kind of like being the prettiest girl available to finish runner-up in the Miss. Laplace pageant. Given the low expectations for the team, the Saints can throw Shough out there to see what they have, but are under very little pressure to stick with him, even during the season, if he sucks. Meaning, if Rattler show in practice/preseason he is better I doubt the Saints will feel obligated to force a second round pick to try to be their guy.

Agree with this but busts on 2/3 last 2nd round picks is going to keep this roster ranked in the 30s for the foreseeable future. We just can’t get out of our own way, fully expecting bags in the Dome in 2 months.

If you truly believe this is the worst QB room, you may want to temper your expectations of 17 points per game. Last year this would have tied NE for the 3rd worst offense (ahead of Clev @ 15.18 & NYG @ 16.06).

I don't care enough to look to see how many of NE, NYG & Clev's points came in what situations.

I don't know why this isn't GLARINGLY obvious, but you have no choice but to give Shough the bulk of the snaps. You have a 2nd round pick invested in this kid and you need to know if he's the future. With the 2026 QB draft looking really good, and the Saints likely sitting on a top 5 pick, you need to know what you have in Shough now.

You should replied to the other shitty poster who originally brought it up in this thread.

I think you might be expecting too much of a plan.
Not all of the decisions align with each other. Shough obviously will get a chance early, but if he falters it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see them put winning a few games above everything else…even though that would be the opiate of what they should do.
Regardless, it’s highly likely IMO that the QB position is a major weakness in this team this year. If I’m wrong about that, then the Saints caught lightening in a bottle with Shough, or the Moore/Rattler combo looks like something nobody saw coming.

Replying to me over & over won't make you a better poster.

He goes into camp as the presumptive "favorite" to be the starter because of this, but if he looks completely overwhelmed in camp/preseason I don't think the staff will hesitate to go with Rattler. As fans we would be fine seeing the Saints get a top 5 pick next season in what could be a much better QB draft. But the coaching staff still owes an obligation to the players in the locker room to try to win every game. It's hard to ask the other players to give you everything they have each Sunday while also running out a QB who they all know is woefully unable to compete. The other players aren't necessarily worried about the Saints future. They are worried about the present.
In SEVEN years of college football the best Shough performed was being the 6th rated QB in the ACC in his 7th season. It could be that the best for him is yet to come. But he doesn't come in with the pedigree and bona-fides to weather him being awful all season in hopes that the dynamite talent displayed in college will emerge eventually.
He'll get his shot. But I don't think he has an unlimited "leash"

Then why in the hell did we waste No 40 pick on this bum? No wonder that other good thread I started has Shough busting.
