Sounds eerily similar to Vaccaro. Plays better at nickel and up close than as a true safety. Can play both run and pass and can blitz some.

Including the part where he annoys the shite out of his own teammates

I’d say more Malcolm Jenkins than Kenny Vaccaro. Vaccaro was a 4.6 guy who was more SS/LB where CGJ is a 4.4 guy who is more FS/CB in my opinion.

Didn't mean clone, especially physical traits wise.

Just in how he was used in College and what they say he's better at.

Looking at this pick combined with what Loomis said (or more accurately didn't say) about PRob, I'm wondering if his injury is a career ender or close to it.

Also would make sense why we jumped on PJ for $2 mil when it looked like he didn't have a market and may be facing a suspension with his dui.

As for what Loomis said, he was asked about Rankins and he said they were pleased with his progress. Very next question was about PRob and he said something to the effect that he wasn't comfortable answering these types of questions.

Seems weird to be fine giving a thumbs up for Rankins but then not wanting to talk about it when PRob is brought up.

His tape last year is phenomenal. That dude is a monster 10 yards off the line.

He’s like a poor man's Jamal’s Adams with better ball skills and better hips

Seems pointless to worry about PRob now. This kid was born to play nickel.

Because you offer such an astute analysis of the recent draft pick?

Agreed. Payton and Loomis didn't have a lot to work with; doing work! Couldn't have asked for a better class, with more to come.

Looking like we got kids with 1st and 2nd round grades with our picks. Not bad.

He killed it against LSU last year. Reminds me of a poor man's honey badger. Plays that roving nickel slot and just makes plays. He was the one person I really wanted with our 4th. Great pick.

Walter loves this pick. He’s given the Saints two A+ grades.

New Orleans Saints: Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, S, Florida A+ Grade

There was some chatter that Chauncey Gardner-Johnson could sneak into the opening round, but I always had him mocked in the second frame. Gardner-Johnson is small, but he's a terrific play-maker. I heard that he fell because he didn't handle himself well during top-30 visits, but the Saints are getting an exceptional defensive back.

CGJ is going to be a really good player. Reminds me of a better version of Lamarcus Joyner. What an absolute steal.

I think we like our WR group, especially with the signing of Cook. We’re going to feature him heavily. Really our only holes now are DE (really wish we’d sign Ziggy) and backup LB. Every team will have holes though and DE could be fine with Davenport and Hendrickson. Would like more depth there though.

We just need another decent body at DE just for depth/rotation. With the run in the first it obviously wasn't happening through the draft. I think we'll sign a vet in FA to add there, and then hit up a good amount in UDFA.

As for LB, we have 4 legit starters which is more than most teams. Biegel is the 5th special teamer. With so much nickel played it's really only two starting spots so we have starters and backups for both spots already. Te'o remained largerly inactive for this very reason (and the fact he doesn't play special teams).

Only other place we are really thin is OT, but those flew off the board before our pick too. Drafting a C allows the flexibility to let us kick Peat out to LT if needed and have either Easton or the rook play LG (whoever isn't starting at C so likely Easton).

Everywhere else at least has depth now.

I love the pick, and Im not just saying this because he's a Gator. He was the leader of our secondary this past season, kid can play and he brings an infectious attitude with him on the field. Which is something we need imo, a defender to set the tone.
