interesting. cam is no longer worth the remaining on his deal. i know cam may feel good reason to feel entitled but its probably in best interest of everyone if he actually takes a real pay cut and saints restructured some monies.

I’d also caution to wait and see what actual moves are made. The saints have a pretty tight lipped front office.
Would I be shocked if Carr ends up getting cut? No. Things change.

to me, it read like moore and carr met. moore feels confident about the short term path forward of keeping carr. the end.

Where is this set in stone?

And isn’t that what everyone wants, a bunch of bad players?
Sure, but the other news showed this isn't happening.
The point was that the article was largely fan fiction that ignores reality.

We're not tanking

It not but that’s the targeted players, not like we need 8 paycuts.

Remains to be seen. Keeping Carr isn’t exclusively because you want to win now.

Tweet also says “continue to remain budget conscious”
And we only signed 9 free agents last year with 2 that actually cost anything. Doesn’t take much to be “more active”

The cap will be in significantly better shape next season. Most haven’t been paying attention, but the saints have been cap conscious the last few years, certainly on the fringes.
David Onyematta has a $17mm cap hit for the falcons this year. Saunders and Shepherd are $10mm combined. Little moves like this add up.
We need to move 47M from this year into the future.

seems like just a short time ago we were 100 million in a hole with no qb's on the roster.

hope so. In reality we won’t know until can kicking season is over. If we largely take our medicine then we should be in good shape
I don't think you guys have looked at the numbers.
This is a 2 year process...not1. We will not be in a good cap situation next year...and there is nothing we can do about it this year to change that. What we CAN do is do something about it this year so that we can do something about it again next year and then have money available in 2027.

Good thing we have lots of cap space in 2026 and 2027.
None of this is a surprise. We can’t just cut 20 players that either aren’t good or too expensive. We have barely anyone on the books past 2026. Utilize that cap space to get compliant right now, because you literally must, and don’t overspend on any free agent and you’ll be in really good shape starting next year and in 2027. The path is pretty clear.

our whole existence will be a process. calm down. quit worrying about it. each year we're making things a bit better a bit better with moving forward. The hope is that post carr's time at whatever point, maybe we're able to go a qb cost cutting route of a guy on a rookie contract. but if not, qb is the most important position in football so its always going to be worth the cap costs.

Just stop with the pushing of shite into the future, you’re likely going to bottom out in the process but at least you’re moving towards the ability to have REAL flexibility again as an organization.
What you don't realize is we HAVE to push into the future to get legal. We literally cannot cut our way to being legal.
The cuts we will give us money in 2026...but that money will be needed to make other tough cuts that cost more cap than it saves.

Oh I fully realize it.
I mean stop pushing more than what is necessary for compliance. 26 and 27 aren’t going to look as good after the necessary compliance moves are made. But if we don’t make any dumb EXTRA moves to gain an extra win or three during this bridge period it’s going to eventually get better.
Decisions should be made with the idea that you’re cleaning up this mess more than prioritizing “winning” through making roster moves on established players that aren’t already your young talent you’ve drafted. Hence the bottoming out comment.
That doesn’t mean you have to aim to suck or can’t win. You could acquire very good players through good drafting. It’s just a likely by product during the cleaning up process as you’re constructing a roster with one hand behind your back.

Yeah...this is disturbing after all of the good coaching news.
Tampa is winning the division, basically, because they suck less than the rest. That's a low bar to clear.
If we had a Philly or even Minnesota in the division, a team winning 12-14 games, you'd say "burn it and reboot. We can't catch them right now". But the Saints just have to get to 10 wins, which in theory they could.
Defense was ok, as was the STARTING offense. You need depth so injuries don't take you down. But if that was the mindset, why can Allen?

We do have lots in 2027...for now, and for context, its still pretty low by league standards.

We are going to push 47M for sure into the future, going to sign a rookie class, and will add more to 2026 if we have any post June 1 cuts. Of course any FA acquisitions this year will add to it.
The space isn’t really there.

I can't wait to come back and read all the genius GMs on here that just never got a shot to show how talented they are at NFL team building. I'll await the enlightenment.

So you want to defend Mickey and the moves he’s made since Brees and Payton left? Simply saying he’s better at his job than amateurs at home doesn’t mean he’s actually a good GM.
