Saints/Mahomes Angle

I heard an interview by Mahomes this guy called KC and said "hey if y'all don't take me the Saints will" hence KC jumps Saints in the draft. Which tells me he didn’t want to come here one and two part of that reason is he knew potentially had a better shot supplanting Alex Smith over Brees. So let it go HE DIDN'T WANT WHO DAT NATION!

He's publicly said in interviews that he said it to the Chiefs, and that of every team that he interviewed with the Chiefs were his preferred option

We had Drew so I don’t blame him

Payton was always about to draft whoever turned out to be good.

Right? He coveted Mahomes, Watson, and Lamar Jackson. He just knew they were surefire NFL starters.
Which is why he traded up for project DEs and drafted QBs like Canfield, Grayson, and Book.

We didn’t need a QB during those years. What’s your point? Qb’s drafted late don’t pan out? Ok

I get what you are saying, but the Watson & Lamar ones are bad examples because he passed on both. Plus, the Mahomes/Payton story has been verified by Payton & Mahomes and was the worst kept secret during that draft (largely because of the Mahomes camp not wanting to sit behind Brees for a number of years)

I can see why he would chose KC over NO. Also I wouldn't believe Seans claims either. He'll say Mahomes was the pick now but I wouldn't be surprised if he would have passed on him. However I feel Sean at that time was a better coach than Reid. Definitely more accomplished. Also he probably only loses a year morof starting than with the Chiefs if the Saints finish 2017 like they did. Without lattimore there is a chance the defense is not as good and Brees might have been out after 2017 with a losing record. They didn't exactly start that season off good.
