That’s a stretch. Kwon was a playmaker.

Werner is a 3 down backer along side DeMario. You can go to the jets site and read how poor vs the run Kwon is but how good in coverage he is.
Also DeMario has been full of praise for Werner this camp. Werner won the job as a rookie which is no small feat.
People thinking its weird we picked up a lber but I think Kiko is a Mike and plays a different rule than Kwon.

How about signing Kwon instead of waiting all fall for him to get signed by the jets??
Allen has coached both of these players directly, there's probably a reason he's signing Alonso. I know it doesn't mean everything but look at Kwon's PFF scores the last season

Did Kwon say he wanted to be here in the last few months?
Yup I’m sure he’d much rather play for one of the worse organizations in football instead of one of the best, and for peanuts. And not in the state he’s played most of his college and professional career in….

Kwon is so good at coverage that you can get away with staying out of nickel vs 3WR though.

I think having Tyran Matthieu, CGJ, and Taylor gives you versatility to put one of those guys at or near LOS

I think Kwon is alot better at what he does best (coverage) than Kiko. However, Kiko is more versatile and a fit for what the saints need at the moment which is a backup LB that can play all really play all 3 LB positions (mainly WLB and ILB). Werner and Demario are the starters but Kiko can be a decent backup for both positions.

Wonder if they were trying to see what they had in camp before they signed someone but now that Kwon is gone they are trying to get another vet in before the well runs dry.

Nah. I thought Werner was the better player towards the end of the year. For his young age he has the potential to be really something if he keeps improving. I saw flashes from Kwon but not an abundance of them and Werner is just the better all around linebacker. I would have liked to have kept him for experienced depth though.

One reporter is saying that the saints did talk with Kwon but offered him a reduced role which he declined
Posted on 8/4/22 at 9:31 pm to Mpd31
I saw that, they offered him to play on special teams but reduced role on defense. I kind of doubt the accuracy of that report

Shoulda signed Kwon . Dude signed for less than $1.3M

This is what I figured and also posted in this thread. If you are signing Kwon to be a starter over Werner then we have problems. With the secondary depth we have there won’t be many times where we have more than two linebackers on the field.
People don’t understand how good Werner is because he doesn’t flash on the screen. But the thing that makes Werner great is his ability to always be in the right place. Long term we will be much better off with Werner starting.

He does if you watch him. He flies to the ball

The signs have all been there for Michael Thomas this training camp, and it felt like more a question of when we'd get first real "wow" moment.
That moment officially arrived on Friday morning in front of the fans out in Metairie, and it was immediately followed by another. MT got his first taste of 7-on-7 reps earlier this week in an unpadded practice before a day off. He took a step forward into 1-on-1s today in full pads, matched up against the likely camp MVP thus far in Paulson Adebo.

Big returns and big fights making waves at Saints camp

The second-year corner has dominated with physicality thus far in camp, but it was no match for Thomas' brand. On the first rep the pair was locked up down the field, before MT made a violent cut toward the pylon, created separation and hauled in a perfect ball from Jameis Winston. The result drew a legitimate roar from the capacity crowd on hand. On his next rep, the same thing happened, but MT snapped off his route to the middle of the field and made a clean catch. Thomas then worked in 7-on-7 drills and snagged a few catches, though he was covered well on one play by LB Pete Werner

not sure where all the hate for him is coming from now
No hate for Kwon at all, just hate for the simpletons who think they know better than the front office and are looking for something to bitch about and are ignorant to how Werner won the job over Kwon. That or they are butthurt they let an LSU guy get away
