Hopefully we can hold on to Lofton and still get Spoon cheap to take Hawthornes spot. If Spoon comes cheap and we cut Hawthorne (who I was a huge fan of when got him) we should be able to afford Lofton and Spoon.

At least Lofton shows up to play every week. He's a liability in pass coverage, but he's showing up. Weatherspoon has played what? 6 games in the last 2 years?

Yea Lofton never misses a game, always around the ball. I don't think he is a bad cover guy, I would say compared to most MLB, he is average. If I had one of the worst D in the league I wouldn't get rid of my best LB I know that.

Blues thank you so much for this bit. I've been trying to explain our pass rush "woes" and why it isn't an issue because we got killed with short passes all year, and this is EXACTLY what I was talking about.

Teams knew where to hit us all year long to try to negate our rush (though we still pressure on 24% of snaps compared to 27% the year before so it wasn't the huge drop off it's made out to be).

It's not the interior of the Dline. Jordan didn't start sucking (he did start getting chips and doubles from TEs and backs a lot more when they opted to just hold Galette on EVERY frickING PLAY). Teams schemed around our rush and hit our biggest weakness, covering the quick passes.

Watching him play and looking at his coverage grades every year, he is one of the worst LBs in coverage. He missed covering (or just couldn't get there) SO SO many backs last year and it absolutely killed us.

I've been very down on Hawthorne but he actually played decent coverage last year and was a much better all around player.

Don't get me wrong, I want to move on from both guys and get new cover LBs but Hawthorne is cheaper and outplayed Lofton last year.

I do like that he doesn't miss games, but Shane didn't really miss games either.

It was 7, haha

I guess the good part is he isn't having nagging knee, back, neck injuries that will cause him to have recurring injuries. He has a Lisfranc injury at the beginning of his 13 season, then he had a knee injury to end 13 that did not result in surgery, and an Achilles injury in 14.

yay, lets sign another often injured lb that wont play for a few years and then gets cut after the first game of the preseason.

I long for the days of shanle, fujita, and the other white guy that i cant remember the name of.

what does this team have against quality lb's?

I don't think I laughed at you. I think I just pointed out being concerned about his injuries.

Larry Holder tweeted out that we could be looking into Mason Foster as well

That's more speculation because we liked him coming out of the draft than an actual report of interest. That said it wouldn't surprise if we did have interest.

I would willingly pay more money to have Foster.

He's healthier, younger and just as athletic

I would rather Foster too but I'm not sure we would get him and a higher tier CB. Spoon would likely be a bargain and give us more flexibility.

Maybe just because when he does something good he pulls out the imaginary spoon from his side
