Saints could have had Baker Mayfield.

Looks like Stafford might be replaced with a younger cheaper Mayfield. Mayfield looked sharp yesterday. Saints could have made a trade for him but failed to do so.

Baker finally matched up with a good offensive mind that can use him. Baker with Pete wouldn't be good, but baker with Sean probably would be.

Baker Mayfield with this staff is essentially Jameis Winston. You get some good. You get some bad. You won't get elite play.
Remember this is a baker with chubb, obj, Landry, njoku, etc and couldn't put up above average numbers

Hasn't been with a quality offensive minded coach or organization either until now. We'll see how he does now.

Nah. His arm is dead and he doesn't have Brees' level work ethic, aptitude, or accuracy to mitigate it like Drew could.

Which means he wouldn’t have been a good fit here either

Stafford not being as good as brees doesnt mean he isnt 5 times better than Baker

baker isnt and never has been good in the nfl
Baker had a solid rookie season & a good 2020 season where the Browns (11-5) lost to the Chiefs in the second round of the playoffs 22-17. Baker won on the road the week before on Wild Card Weekend in Pittsburgh 48-37.

The play calling & general offensive philosophy was a joke there. That franchise is a toxic mess & will be as long as Jimmy Haslam is the owner.

Never gotten close to 8ypa or rating touching 100. He had a pretty good 2020 with everything around him working well. He has never carried his team

I mean he did look good yesterday but I also think that Denver basically gave up on everything in that game as well.
It wasn't just Baker Mayfield kicking the crap out of the broncos.
Think about it the way our season has gone. No one can say for sure if he would have succeeded.
I'm just saying don't let recency bias get the best of you.
He also looked good on a short week against the Raiders too but we also shut out the Raiders.

Baker is baker, he isn’t suddenly going to become this world beater at this point in his career. There’s a reason the baker cycle meme has been popular for a few years now

I wouldn't say that Rams should or shouldn't consider replacing Stafford with Mayfield. BUT, what McVay has done with Mayfield in a very short period of time is truly remarkable & shows Baker's potential with an offensive mind who has a keen attention to detail.
I've see numerous film breakdowns over the years addressing what Baker has struggled with over his short NFL career. Mayfield can get sloppy in his footwork on his drops. He also has a habit of running parallel to the line scrimmage on rollouts instead of retreating some, creating more of an arch with his route. He stares down receivers at times too.
Throw out the competition element in terms of who the Rams have played because the focus isn't on that. It's about the improvement in QB fundamentals & techniques. Baker's footwork has gotten much better & it shows in his completion percentage.
He was 24-28 against the Broncos. It's hard to go 24-28 against just air much less an NFL defense. Not only that but he used eye manipulation to move defenders to open up throwing lanes for several completions. This all the while learning a new offensive system & receivers on the fly in just a few weeks time.

The announcers said that mcvay taut him how to look off defenders before the throw. I can’t imagine an NFL QB on his 3rd team was never taught that. Hell, I knew that in 10th grade.
