There is as much parity in the league this year as their ever was and Payton won't have much competition from other candidates for his services. By the end of this season if not sooner heads will start to roll (Matt Rhule already) and their will begin a feeding frenzy. A first round and other assets will just be the beginning because of the fierce competition ahead for a proven quality coach. Teams are not going to want to risk him slipping away to a competitor. (Look at what Miami was trying to do behind the scenes.) If he lingered around here a couple of more seasons we would have wound up with nothing and likely no better off than we are now. This is a gift that the team needs to take full advantage of and squeeze every drop of blood from.

Everybody is demanding a first round pick, but I would be fine with a significant starter from the other team and say, a fourth rounder.

Payton is not gonna fetch anywhere near the haul you morons have convinced yourselves of. What the Raiders got for Gruden 20+ years ago is irrelevant. I’d be shocked if we got anything more than a 2nd and 3rd. If that.

Head coach and qb are at the top of the list for most important building blocks for a team. A first round pick would absolutely be worth it for a team like the Chargers to get Payton there. A big name SB winning coach known for offense to pair with their star qb in Los Angeles and a desperate franchise? They gonna pay up.

Roster wise, sure.
Ownership wise, no fricking chance on earth.
I cannot for the life of me believe that Sean Payton will want to coach for the single cheapest owner in the NFL, maybe in major professional american sports.
He will want to coach for an owner with pockets that at least has SOME juice in the league.
