If Brees retires that saves 14m
Restructure Thomas, Cam, Kamara and kick the bucket saves another 10-20
Cut Jenkins, Easton, Janoris saves another 15m or so
Extend Lattimore and Ram to reduce their cap hit next year may save 10m

What else will happen to reduce that number? Covid hurt teams like the Saints that needed the cap to increase yearly.

Saints can’t be the only team dealing with this, right?

There's no way they can cut Jenkins this year. Wouldn't even save money.

They can convert brees salary down to 1 mill and not "retire" him until after June 1st. That will save an additional 9 mill and will spread it to 2022

I hope this is true. Do it.

No way they can cut Janoris. They may try to extend him and flip some of his $10M salary to a larger bonus that is spread out; but he has been great since he's been here. In fact, there were games where he looked like the better CB than Latt (not saying he is) against the other team's #1.

Saints lead at $95M over. 2nd place is Philly at $51M over.

Right now there are 13 teams that are over the projected cap($176M)

It should also be noted that the Saints may have around $12M to roll over

If Drew Brees retires as expected, the Saints would free up $13.5 million

Cutting linebacker Kwon Alexander should create $13.4 million in space

Interior offensive lineman Nick Easton is valuable depth, but we need the $6 million in cap savings for a guy who isn't projected to start
quote:

Moving on from veteran wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders frees up an additional $6.5 million, and releasing defensive tackle Malcom Brown creates $5 million more in savings. Janoris Jenkins, with a $14.2 million cap hold, can net us $10 million more as a post-June 1 release, and fellow corner Patrick Robinson gets us $2.6 million more.

Saints will have to build through the draft. We need draft capital. We can’t do it any other way. We went all In this past year for a Super Bowl to take a vantage of an Aging hall of fame quarterback.

I can’t fault our front office for this. I commend them. I like the aggressive stance. But the time to pay the piper is now. Brees knows this too. He knew before the season that we couldn’t afford to pay him like this anymore. If Brees doesn’t retire. He’ll go to another team simply because we can’t afford it. He’s retiring though.

Frankly having a top-five type quarterback right now is simply unaffordable.

Is cutting Kwon a real possibility here? I’d argue his play was just as good as Janoris while he was here?

It's should be a certainty. Saves a bunch of money and he just tore his Achilles so he would be limited next season anyway.
