The question to getting under the cap has begun: the Saints have converted $6.07M of S Marcus Maye’s 2023 compensation into a signing bonus, creating $4.856M in cap space, per source.

How much to cut his arse? He’s terrible. What a down grade.

That's the problem. I do not think it would have saved much, if any, capwise to cut him given the structure of his deal.

How much does it cost to cut Honey Badger. He’s beyond a shell.

Current cap hit is $8.9M. His entire 2023 salary is guaranteed, so cutting him would push that cap hit to $14.6M.

Another destined for the ML kicking the can approach. Will see his salary converted to a bonus and save about $4M on the cap, but making it harder to move on next year

ML has really become the king of making bad moves to lessen the immediate blow of bad moves from the year prior

Maye and TM have the potential to become Taysom Hill-like contract albatrosses.

Really is infuriating. Every team makes bad, and even horrible, decisions in the draft and FA. But, after 1-2 years, those teams can just bite the bullet and move on. Not the Saints, because they are in constant cap hell, you need to continue to carry the players/contracts and even push/extend them further because you can't afford to move on.

To make it worse Gayle will never fire the guy. He’s a made man with no accountability. He has carte blanche to frick up this organization indefinitely.

marcus williams' biggest asset to the saints was his ability to play single high deep safety. that and 7tech DE with 5tech size allow allen to run his defense as was intended.

I don't remember anyone saying that last year with him or Honey Badger.

Now fast forward a year and after seeing both of them struggle to make an impact and yea those contracts dont look so good. But it's revisionist history to pretend anyone here thought those were bad signing at the time.
