There were some with reservations, but it's not really about calling out potential hindsight bias.
For 2023 we know Maye/Mathieu are bad and expensive, but the problem is that we can't take the lick due to constant stream of dead money and we're going to just compound that situation by creating more untenable contracts and putative dead money. Like I said earlier, this is just like the Taysom Hill contract.

I'm not talking about the players; just the contracts. We can't really do anything except extend Taysom, at this point. His cap hit is too big to handle being so far above the cap, so we have to restructure, pushing that money to later years and making his future hits even more impactful. We're doing the same thing with Maye and we likely will do it with Mathieu and Cam. This is in addition to big conversions from Lattimore and Ramczyk (deferring 2 more major hits down the road like we did last year).

Like or hate Sean Payton we all know who ran that organization while he was here. It sure as shite wasn't ML. Evidence: Look how he ran the team before Payton and now. The only thing Payton didn't do was contracts he'd pretty much tell ML who he wanted and ML would frick that up too.

It would save for 2 years from now. That's what the priority should be.
This move is a sign that the Saints aren't ready to do what it takes to take the pain now, for the benefit later. It's a sign that the front office doesn't have a plan beyond this year.

Really wasted money on Mathieu and Maye. We need to get younger and cheaper there. We could have had CGJ and Vonn Bell as our safeties for years but then fricked that up. Now a Khai Harley is going to be pulling some late nights to get us under the cap.

If you really want to clean up the cap, cut Loomis, doesn't save money now on the cap but no more of his contracts
