Smith is the Number 1 coverage lb in the draft and a player you build def around. Build your def around Roquan Smith, Lattimore, M Williams and Jordan. Smith reminds me of Ray Lewis..fast, instinctive and is a leader.

Maybe if he's falling past 10. The cost of trading up is so high now. It's really retarded to do it for a LB.

This. The potential of hitting on a future QB is worth the cost of trading up. A LB is not.

His explosive read and react is phenomenal. It's like he knew the plays.

Only issue is he gets washed out if he goes against mauling OL, he cannot disengage worth a shite.

Give him a good line, he's gonna dominate

You don't trade up that high to take a linebacker over a quarterback. Aside from that I think we're pretty much set there finally and most likely won't be addressed that early if at all.

Who are we looking to replace anyway?

Our LBs if we started the season today would probably look like this:

Demario Davis OLB
A.J. Klein MLB
Craig Robertson or Alex Anzalone OLB

That's not bad.

Reserves as of right now:

Manti Teo
Nate Stupar
Michael Mauti
Jonathan Freeny
Gerald Hodges

Players that were on the practice squad:

Adam Bighill
Shayne Skov

Again the linebacker situation isn't a dire need that we have to move way up to get someone. If a guy falls to us that's too good to pass up then great.

that would set us up for failure in the future

the people thinking he's the second coming of Brees need to pump the breaks

Roquan will be one of the most elite weakside LB's in the game if he get's a good D-line in front of him

Roquan Smith Breakdown

Here's a good scouting video

Agree that you make a minor move up for a difference maker on defense, not a major move that costs a ton of draft capital. I like Roquan Smith but I think Chubb is the bigger asset at a position of need.

Well we won't ever have another Brees so anyone who thinks that way is delusional. But, Mayfield is the closest thing I've seen to a Brees in a while.

Mayfield shares many of the same physical attributes & intangibles that Brees has.

Baker is very mobile. He has better than average arm strength with uncanny accuracy. (71 % completion percentage in 2017) Lincoln Riley ravs about Mayfield's ability as a quick learner as well as ability to process information quickly at the line of scrimmage (See the article about Mayfield's maturation in the other thread). He showed this same ability during his combine interviews when teams did chalkboard sessions with him. That ability alone is key to being an successful NFL QB.

His teammates at Oklahoma would run through a brick wall for him because he is a leader of men. There is an article by Dede Westbrook where he mentions that Mayfield would drive 20 minutes out of his way to pick up Westbrook to make sure he made it practice. Baker also organized throwing sessions with receivers to build timing & chemistry. During events meant to build team chemistry, Mayfield was always front & center due his knack for being able to relate to teammates from any background. That in itself a trait very few ever talk about concerning QBs but it goes a long way to earning the respect of their peers in the lockeroom. He was also well respected there because of his work ethic. First in & last out of the building player. Truth be told, he has had that same work ethic since high school.

Just like Brees, he knows how to make use of passing lanes to see the entire field. People have knocked his height yet there is no evidence that this was ever an issue at Oklahoma. (Former Seahawks OC Darrell Bevel did a film breakdown for SI where he compliments Mayfield's use of passing lanes to see the field. He also noted the lack of batted balls over his collegiate career.)

Anyone saying Mayfield would be a bust especially with the Saints, is not looking at the entire picture. If you combine what he brings to the table as a player & leader, Sean Payton's coaching & offensive philosophy while having the opportunity to soak up professional work habits & knowledge from a 1st ballot Hall of Famer then you have a monster waiting in the wings once Brees walks away.

We need to get young in front 7. At 27, I would try trade out picking extra picks.

Okay, I'm sold.
We have to trade up with Chicago if he's still on the board.
In all seriousness you can't deny the guy is a student of the game... even if he grabs his crotch at opponents.

I think it would be a mistake to trade up for a position that is not an apparent need. I would trade up no more that 8-10 spots for a WR/QB/TE/OLB. That alone will cost us in the middle of the draft where there will be really good value this year. The only LB worth drafting in a pass rushing outside LB.

What about the DE Davenport? He shouldn't go as high as Roquan & it might not be that high of a price if he falls in the draft.

As far as need & the price it would cost...I think that would be as good an option as any.

Speaking of DE's...I found this interesting. Hopefully Okafor can be the same player that he was last year. Maybe not right away, but hopefully he will be by the 2nd half of the season. He & Cam were a damn good DE duo last year. Easily a top 5 duo in the league.
