Remember when we sucked in the mid-late 90s and got the shaft on NFL Primetime?

I remember my dad and the neighbor talking one day when all us kids were playing around outside. My dad asked what the score of the Saints game was and my neighbor said, “Saints are up 5-2”

Then they both busted out laughing and I didn’t get it.

I wonder if that is the game you’re talking about.

I remember having the Dome Patrol, and knowing that if we only had an average offense, we could be really good. We lost so many games by just a handful of points. But nope. Oh, and frick the 49ers.

In the mid-80s, I would stay up late on Sunday nights for the half-hour highlight show of NFL games, "George Michael's Sports Machine" (80s antenna tv version of Primetime), and if the Saints won, George would only show the Saints score, no highlights. If the Saints lost, George would show the highlight of every score by the team that beat us.

At least, that was the way it felt every week.

There was a highlight during the 1996 season when the Saints hosted the Falcons for the last home game. I believe both teams were like 2-11, and they showed someone sitting in the terrace pretty much by himself holding a banner which read "Peyton Manning Bowl." The attendance for that game was something like 30k, and the game itself wasn't much better as both teams looked awful.

<---- Was there.

32,953 paid attendance, lost 31-15

Brought one of my kids (aged 5 at the time), walked up and bought two shitty Terrace tickets from the first scalper I saw for $10 each and walked in and sat on the 45 yard line behind the Falcons bench in Row 15-ish like we owned the joint.

Had a great time making paper airplanes.

Everett and Hodon were QBs that year

I remember watching the games as a kid, yelling at the tv and being totally bummed all week after a loss (which was often). I'd watch SportsCenter Sunday nights and watch the replays and just sink into depression.

It was like we would find ways to lose, no matter what the circumstances were.

Haha great win. Bad snap on the PAT turned into a 2 point conversion.

The holder?

Remember when Ditka and the Saints beat the Colts on the road in 98 to go to 3-0 right before Georges made landfall?

Went 3-10 down the stretch.

In the late 80's I lived in a shack in uptown N.O. Every Sunday was a full day of football and about 8 people would show up. That's when some company would buy out the remaining tickets so the game would be televised. Some would stick around to see or not see the national coverage.. Good memories..
