Realistically, what can we get for Sean Payton?

John Gruden was traded for 2 1sts and 2 2nds. Would we expect the same, more, or less?

Hopefully more since he is a better coach

In my opinion the Saints will not want to burn bridges with Sean so they will not try to totally maximize value for him. I hope for something like a 1 and a 2 but it could end up being something like two 3s imo

F that, he choose to leave. You don’t owe him anything, maximize yourself capital. Bidding starts at what Gruden got at minimum

Yea fvck that. I still love CSP, but he knew what he signed up for when he left. Get as much as you can.

At this point I hope Dallas starts off 0-3 and panics.

What? You do realize he's still under contract through 2024 with the Saints right?

I thought it was 2026 when his contract ends but still that’s 2 years you’re losing even if he sits this year out likes going to do. 2 1st would be my bottom floor asking price, one for each year we have him under contract but I’d also try to get a 2nd or a couple 3rds thrown in too.

My understanding is it is technically for two (or is it three?) more years of coaching. In other words, the contract is essentially on hold, since he retired, and restarts if he decides to return.
I'm sure there are others who can clarify this for me, though.
ETA: Did a little more research and it through the 2024 season. So he can return in 2025 without the saints getting compensation from what I have read.

I dont know why you're getting downvoted. This could 100% be how it goes.
Payton will want a hookup from the homies.

I don’t know who in the Saint’s organization would be dumb enough to do that, but if they did, it’s a firing on the spot situation. I love Sean Payton, but he left the Saints of his own free will. The Saints owe him nothing and if there is an opportunity to trade him, the Saints better play hardball.

Burn what bridges? If he wants to retire, fine. He can retire. If he wants to coach again, that team will have to pay to get his rights. Has nothing to do with burning bridges.

We should not give him any kudos, dude left with use in cap he’ll with no QB. I would get what’s he is worth. Miami has a good young team that drafted well. A couple 1s and 2s will be in the high teens or twenties. Take it all.

I understand that Payton has the better overall record, regular season, post season but the only one that matters is Super Bowl. And in that they both have 1 supetbowl trophy. Add to that gruden didn't just up and quit on his team after screwing them with a bad contract to a gadget player, he was traded.
You have to look at the context of the whole picture, which is what owners and general managers will be looking at to see if it's worth it to get screwed by Payton. Why would they give up high picks for him when they know they will be losing picks in some of his dumb trades, Davenport?

The Saints have said in previous years they wouldn't keep Payton here if he didn't want to be here. So I don't think they will get full value. Hopefully they get two 1st rounders.

If the Saints give him a sweetheart deal, they should fold the franchise. He quit on you, don’t jerk off to his new relationship.
