Yeah, there’s no way AK is signing for $4-5M. I’d think it’s somewhere between $9-14M.

I think it will depend on if we are looking at a rookie QB or trading/signing a QB who has a big cap number. Not saying that that’s what AK will look for, but what the Saints would sign him for.

Rookie/cheap QB = AK contract for $12-13M
Vet QB (ex. Carr or Watson) = AK contract for $9-12M

Trade Kamara? You mean 3x Pro Bowler, 2nd Team All Pro, ROY, beloved by the fans Alvin Kamara? Payton Loves him some AK41, Alvin Kamara?

Bra! Don't you know you always trade away your best players? Who cares if he played through a grade 2 high ankle sprain last season. NO EXCUSES! Trade the bum! He couldn't run for shite on that HAS, so time to find someone who can!

What I've never understood is, if Kamara had such a bad ankle sprain all year why was he in the lineup?

Blame Payton. Kamara is a matchup problem that opens up other areas of the offense.

I applaud players wanting to play through injury and pain, and it's on the coach to step up and sit that player down. My guess is that those mathchup and schemes required Kamara in there, and Payton figured a 70% AK was still better for the offense overall than no AK.

I'm not saying I agree with him playing him, but I am simply trying to give answer to your question. I get the feeling you are trying to play a gotcha game to say Kamara wasn't really hurt since Payton continued to play him. Well that's silly if it is indeed your premise

Theo Riddick or Chris Thompson. Both are free agents and should be cheap.

Both of those guys replace 2019 Kamara.

We aren't going to find a replacement for 2018 Kamara.

I have played through injuries in high school and college. I have never had a coach tell me I couldn’t play because of an injury. That is not their job. They go by advice from medical and the player. If medical clears them and the player says they are good to go then they play him. Coaches are paid to coach the team. Not determine if a player is injured and can or cannot play.

Yes, from his side, of course. And if he were coming off his ‘18 season, he’d have legs to stand on

Do you think his side is more motivated to extend the contract this offseason or gamble and negotiate after ‘20?

Let's say the Saints do the smart thing and trade Kamara.

If the Saints want to win the Super Bowl this season, trading Alvin is not the smart thing to do. If you're talking about the long term, you might have an argument. But the idea we'll find someone to play at Kamara's level this season is just incredibly unlikely.

they lose nothing by starting talks this year

if the saints come in where we think they should, then he will just hold out, demand a trade, or let it be known he won't re-sign

CMac just got 4/64. we are fricked

Yeah. I think there’s no way we retain AK long term. He will just want too much, especially given his agent group now and what CMac got.

We are all in this year. Let him play it out and then move on next year for the rebuild.

Draft an all purpose back this year at some point and maybe again next year.

I mean did y’all expect anything different? Did y’all think he was going to get paid less than zeke? CMC was their entire offense last year. They can’t function without him.

I could definitely see a RB in the first or third this year.

Is he going to play it out, though? I can't imagine there's not a holdout, and then you're hoping he gets up to speed halfway through the year if he ends his holdout.

I mean I love Kamara, but I'm fine with letting him walk next year and getting a comp pick.

He will hold out I imagine.

But we don’t have a real choice. We aren’t going to pay him.

I think they have to draft someone in Round 1 or 3 now. You can’t go into the season having only Murray.

they think that BOB is fricking things up and will make that level of mistake, ignoring that he's making these moves to keep him

*ETA: i'm not defending his moves, but saying he believes he's setting things up for DW. he's not just going to become a FA

Exactly, I think it’s clear that he is trying to build a roster for him. No one is trading or letting 24yr old franchise QBs go lol
