We have plenty receivers.......will likely cut someone who will get picked up. Potential trade bait.

Ravens might be willing to trade McGahee

They can have Torrance but not our 3rd/4th best C.B. They are more important than our 3rd/4th RB as last year proved.

We're looking for depth, not a bell cow. If the Saints are patient they'll find someone to adequately fill that role without having to trade picks/players or pay much more than the league minimum. Wait out the cuts, they're only a few weeks away.

dude, it's a fricking seventh round pick. What the frick is the value of a seventh round pick. There are no good 7th round players ever...

No fricking way I trade a CB that will frequently see the field for a RB that will see 5 carries a game. Gay was bad last year but he's been a solid player for us and has supposedly looked good in camp.

So, he was terrible last year and yet the Saints must keep him.

Players have bad years, especially CBs. Dunta Robinson was awful last year and the Falcons just gave him a shitload of money. And, again, it was ONE bad year. Focus on the career.

And everyone is neglecting McGahee's contract, which is horrendous:

2010: $3.6 million, 2011: $6 million, 2012: $6.5 million, 2013: $7.2 million

Those are BASE salaries, so we're stuck with the whole thing. Numbers that high would actually compromise our chances at keeping Porter or Nicks. frick, you offer that deal to PT and he jumps all over it. Would you rather McGahee or PT? And looking at those numbers, I'd say there's a 95% change they cut him anyway.

It is a little confusing Powdered Toast man.

'just sign Betts, that's all they need! What is going on with that'?
CoCo.

This reminds me a little of the "just sign Derrick Brooks" threads.

I agree that there is no reason to reach for anybody at this time. We still have games to play and evaluate. No more major injuries and then take a look at who's released.

we would be able to cut mcgahee whenever the frick we want with no penalties in paying guaranteed monies.

So you're trading your #3 CB (unless you want to throw PR into the fire) for a one year loaner on a guy you can probably pick up in a few weeks for nothing? And, again, you're focusing too much on one year. Before averaging 5ypc last season (which PT has averaged over his career), McGahee averaged under 4ypc for his career and never surpassed 4.1 in a season.

I'm not an NFL contract sage, so how do we end up not on the hook for the money? If we aren't on the hook for the contract and can cut him whenever we want, my original thought stands. Do it yesterday.

Or, just wait it out until 53-man roster cuts. There's bound to be some casualties. McGahee might even be one of them.

When one team trades a player with guaranteed $ still left on the contract, the remaining money is accelerated and it counts against the cap that year. It's the same if they cut the player. The team that takes on the player just has to pay the base salaries, not the guaranteed $.

Thing is with no cap this season and McGahee not being worth anything close to what he's going to get paid, now is the time for the Ravens to cut him. If they wait to cut him next season, they take the cap penalty.
