What’s the hot take?

A) numerous posters want to proclaim he sucks/ is a bust/ waste of a pick.

B) acting like another positional pick would be some sort of team saving selection at this point is a bit much considering shough is still a potential upgrade at the most important position in football. No matter what, he's a qb on a rookie contract that even the backup QB in the nfl is an extremely important position and we are a cash strapped team that found a way to maybe get by at the position with 4 rookie contracts while we are finding a way to better that cap situation that everyone wouldn't shut up about.

First… your Hot Take is common knowledge for anyone who follows the team.. so it’s NOT a hot take.

Here’s the problem most have with the pick of Shough at #40…..

No one sees him as a longterm QUALITY starter.

The draft capital they spent is for a QUALITY starter and he will probably end up a career backup which is incongruent to the draft capital spent.

That’s it… it’s not complicated.
We are not curing cancer on this board !!

His selection at #40 is feeding into fans frustrations of Saints continually blowing high draft picks year after year !!!;
This fact seriously exasperates the situation !!

That’s it… Thats all.

Put Shough on the field … go ahead !!
I wouldn’t mind seeing him at all …
But No one thinks that QUALITY starter will ever appear !!

Prove Us Wrong !!

Best way for him to learn ( if that’s the only issue.. as YOU are NOW ASSUMING that’s the only issue) …
Put Shough on the field !!!

Fastest way to learn !!

The pass protection isn't very good. I'm thinking Rattler doesn't trust the protection at all and that's why he has an internal clock of 2.5 seconds. At times if he scans the field another second he'd find a player open.

If Shough gets in and doesn't trust the protection he'll be the most sacked QB like David Carr was. That's not good for development.

I could care less about winning games. Dude is getting more comfortable every week. He’s not turning the ball over. He’s got more tds in four games than he did all of last year.

I agree. He is also getting very comfortable missing the read. By the end of this season, he may actually have a win.

Ok….. then sit Shough on the bench this entire season and waste over 10+ games of learning opportunities.

Just don’t complain and keep asking
“Why isn’t Shough Playing” ????

My opinion is that this is why Shough hasn’t played yet. In college his biggest flaw was his reaction to pressure. Rattler right now is standing in and getting through the play, usually with a quick pass, while still protecting the ball. The offense could very easily be a lot worse right now if Shough was out there panicking with our bad protection.

This is another reason I’d wait AT LEAST one more week to go to Shough. The Giants DL is one of if not the best in the NFL. They’re going to absolutely feast on our OL this week. This would be the absolute worst time to play Shough

So you’re telling me he spent his entire 6 year college career rushing throws and reacting negatively to pressure ??

And suddenly the saints will somehow break him of this habit he never resolved to this point in his career ??

Oh yeah… this sounds like a 2nd rd draft prospect ( #40 overall) with a longterm future in the NFL.

Put his Azz on the field and let’s just get this over with !!

Let’s see Moore’s Prodigy QB

Nothing is being wasted. We have next year to evaluate him also.

I damn sure wouldn't draft a QB with the number 1 pick. I'd trade down if possible otherwise I'm taking the number 1 BPA. This team is deficient at a number of positions.

There is no Franchise QB available to pick at #1 even if you attain the pick.
So don’t worry yourself about that action.

As a result….You will get to see Rattler and Shough through 2025 and 2026 … and I’m sure much longer.

Trading backward in the draft to gather more picks and pick BPA is a great strategy but Loomis is your GM and history is replete with him refusing to do so.
So forget that strategy.

The Saga of the Saints……

The 3-4 year rebuild is just getting started.

It will be a very bumpy ride.

Let's hope Kellen Moore tells him to suck an owners dick to trade back.

Everyone expected us to lose guaranteed once Brees retired.

We need a playmaker. We don't have any on this team.

Draft a Mauling Right Guard….

Slip Ruiz to back-up Center and Guard position.

Keep your young starting Tackles injury free and let them develop.

Penning is now your dominant run blocker at Left guard.

McCoy is a good Center.

Again… find a Mauling Right Guard !!!

Do you think that NFL teams draft players expecting them to stay exactly as they are? Or do they plan to develop them?

I’m not shilling for Shough. I wanna see him too. But I think it’s probably the smart play to put him in when he’s ready and when it makes sense to play to his strengths. We have 13 games to go and the team needs to be able to assess not just the play of QB but also other players too and the play of the QB affects those things.

We’re gonna see Shough. Relax.

He is not a great quarterback but I would put him far down on the list of problems right now.

QB ie Rattler is no where close to biggest issue for the Saints.
Until you get better at OL, edge, and CB I would not waste a 1st or 2nd round unless its a great value pick.

Lets be honest we are at least 2years from competing to win Conference.
The coaching staff and scouting department along with GM right now are holding us back the most.

Which shite team should he have beaten?

Tampa twice
Denver
Chargers
Washington
Green Bay
Raiders
Buffalo
Seattle
SF
Arizona

The Raiders? Does it really make a difference if he's 1-8? This is why his 0-9 record is a stupid argument. This team was dogshit last year and you want a 5th rd rookie to beat those teams with nothing at WR and OLINE? Not to mention the absolute worst coaches in the NFL.

Draft the best defensive SEC guy. Philly continue to show the blueprint to winning it all.

Personally I think the best course of action for the Saints is to get a game changing pass-catcher in 1st round, and try to find a reclamation project at QB in free agency. The success rate of QBs in the draft is just plain horrible

Rattler may not be "it" but Moore has him competing at least.

Hahahaha…

Y’all want to WAIT to see Shough.
Yeah… let him sit the bench for another year or two.

You may not have as much time as you think….

Isn’t he 26 years old already.

Hahaha

He’ll be getting on the field at Age 27 or age 28 …. for the first time.

Retire just a few years later.

Hahahaha
