It's not possible to say for sure, but the Saints almost certainly lost the Lions game due to kicking, and the missed FG definitely made a big difference today.

This Frye guy is 1/2 on 50+ yard FGs (missed from 59, made from 56). He is 8/8 from inside 50 yards, and is 7/7 for XPs.

The Titans have no interest/expectations of winning this season. And he's just a fricking kicker, so it shouldn't cost too much to land this guy (maybe a 6th + a future 6th if the Saints extend him after the season).

If you think that the Saints can still win the division (I do), then it would be a low-cost deal that could make a big difference over the remainder of the season.

There are probably other kicker options that we could target, but I didn't dig too deep into solid Ks on shitty teams.

You seriously think the saints can win the division? You must be watching different games than me.

This team needs players at every defensive position before a kicker

When teams are double teaming 37 y/o cam Jordan, you have a problem.

Blockbuster trades don’t include kickers.

Obviously nothing close to "blockbuster" but a cheap and possibly very effective move.

Having a reliable kicker would be nice again. Really. frick it. We left 6 points on the board today.

If they can tread water for another 3-4 games and get Ettiene, Banks, and Tyson into the lineup, then yeah. The NFCS is a shitty division. I think that "should the Saints TRY to win the division" is a more interesting question than CAN they do it. Unless the OL turns things around, then the Saints would be unlikely to get past the wildcard round.

Again, the Saints most likely beat Detroit with a kicker worth a shite. Let's assume that they still lose today's game with a good kicking game (probably the case, but Shough would have had time to come back and tie things up). The Saints would be 1 game behind first place in the NFCS, with 5 games remaining against NFCS teams.

Do the Saints? Realistically we aren’t coming back from 2-5. We might win 5 or 6 games.

Tyson hasn’t played a down in the NFL yet and he’s going to come back in time to help us win the division?

If the Saints come off their bye and beat the Browns and Panthers they will most likely be in 1st place.

And a team that probably wants to lose as many games as possible has a good one. It's a cheap position to fill. Why not inquire?

And the Saints definitely aren't great at DL, but I think that's more of an issue with scheme/fit than talent. The Saints don't have a proper 0-tech for a 3-4, just a bunch of guys that would be more comfortable in 1 or 3-techniques. That's a big reason why they're getting killed in the running game. You're not going to get a stud NT for cheap, but you can probably find a competent guy for 5th-7th rounder (depending on the player's contract) that would still make a big difference.

The Saints obviously aren't winning a SB this year or next, so you don't make an actual "blockbuster"/expensive trade for, say, a stud RT/LB/CB. But if you want to build the team up slowly, a good kicker and a semi-competent NT would be fairly cheap acquisitions that could help out immediately.

A lot of people rightfully hate Loomis and will rag on him for even minor trades, but I'm pretty sure that his last player trade was a similar low-cost deal for Vele (I may very well be missing a more recent one). People here bitched about it for a while, but I think that everyone now agrees that it's definitely worked out. If Vele keeps playing like he has this season, the Saints will either extend him to be a solid WR3, or he's going to sign a deal that will end up giving the Saints a mid-round compensatory pick.

When healthy, do you think Tyson will be a better or worse WR than Brown/Lance? If you think that he'll be better, then why wouldn't that make the Saints more competitive?

Any other division? No

You arent out of this division until the last week.

You can look at the bucs who started like 0-5 and are already back in it.

And no, this is not some ringing endorsement of the saints. This division is terrible

We already stand to be in a better position next week by virtue of not playing.

Greenbay/Carolina is a toss up
Bucs/Falcons play each other

Never trade anything of value for a kicker. You have to stumble onto kickers pretty much. I would honestly let someone like Kamara be our punter than keep this deuchebag. Worst punter in the NFL.

They don't cost much, and if the Saints had a good one, they'd likely have one or two more wins after 7 weeks.

And they've been playing kicker-roulette for years now. I think that they should try to end the pain, especially if it's cheap to do so.

The Falcons just beat San Francisco, could be luck but they look like they are becoming a much better team and Carolina is better than the Saints. The division sucks but the Saints just don't have it this year.
