Post week 3 NFL draft wants/needs

I’m someone not too worried about winning this year because I think we are missing a few pieces still and don’t have the depth to withstand injuries.
It’s an interesting draft because of how many QBs are likely to go high, Jeremiah Smith will be very early, Colin Simmons and Dylan Stewart (minus character) are elite top 5 level talents, Leonard Moore is as good of a corner prospect we’ve ever seen. Goosby and Seaton are great LTs, and there’s a few DTs like Will Echols, David Stone and Armauri Washington.
I’m going to guess we are drafting in the middle of rd 1, so likely can’t get the very best talent. We lose Kamara, Cam Jordan, Godchaux and Sheppard are free agents,
We will have a lot of cap space so we could spend big on some spots.
I think DE, DT, CB are our obvious needs..
I’d love to see us land someone like Will Echols or Princewii Umannmielen in the draft.

They’ll have a lot of cap space. I imagine they’ll sign a lot of defensive line guys. Probably even some to big contracts. Might even add Tariq Woolen in the secondary.
Unless they trade for Thibodeaux, I think they’ll take an Edge in Round 1.
Then probably a Guard in Round 2. Then maybe another TE or RB in Round 3.

DT is our biggest hole. I think Moore's thinking this past draft was turn this Offense into an elite unit and then look to fix the D in 2027. I'm ok with that. This D has some great pieces, but it does remain to have some big weaknesses. That DL will not work without a good DT, and we really need to improve there.
Scheme is an issue as well though. Why is the best TE in the league being left in man coverage or straight up uncovered an entire game? There were times where we rolled double coverage over to the WR and left Bowers running free in a zone. That was bad. Better players won't fix that.

This team will go nowhere without an OL. We need another competent tackle especially if Moore is committed to leaving then on an island. These bad backup tackles can ruin a season

Agreed, and I think it was the right strategy, make sure Shough has the weapons to be the guy, use the cap space and draft to fix the defense in 27.

-Guard (or tackle if we look at moving Fuaga to RG)
-Safety - Defense is lacking a force back there
-DT/DE - Im happy with how they have played without Bresee, but we need more guys considering we run a 3-4. Could also use another OLB.
CB - Just very thin. Would also like to get another starter quality guy and have Quincy Riley as the depth piece
It will be interesting to see what we decide to spend money on this offseason, but I want us to spend it on defense.

-DT/DE - Im happy with how they have played without Bresee, but we need more guys considering we run a 3-4. Could also use another OLB.

we have the pieces for the DEs in a 3 DL system, but we need one piece in particular: NT. Running a 3-4 (or really a 3-3-5 in today's league) MUST have a block eating NT. Without it the system doesn't work.

I'm sure Miller will develop into a good NT but I would like to see us get a good 3-4 NT in FA also. Draft a good edge and LB. More depth at CB. We have 2 good starting corners imo but not much behind them. Don't need to spend mega money on an elite FA corner but maybe get a solid one. I can see later rounds, 4-5 getting a center. McCoy, I believe will be a FA after 2027 season. Maybe draft a guy to sit for a year and replace him, unless the team feels we will resign him.

I think the hope should be Jeremiah Wright replaces Ruiz next year after a season of developing, he showed a lot of promise in the preseason.

Hey, if that works out.. Great. I'd much rather spend draft capital/FA money elsewhere. Aka hammer defense.

I wouldn’t mind drafting a tackle/guard in the 3rd rd simply as a depth piece to have a higher quality backup when inevitably someone gets injured.
I really believe Wright is the future at RG… just don’t know if we cut Ruiz or not after this year

Also… on the bright side we have a 27 yr old Chase Young… hopefully we lock him up long term after his contract is up.
