Hard to quantify and there will be omissions but let’s recall some of the unheralded greats.

In no particular order:

Colston
John Kasay
Leigh Torrence
Jabari Smith
Darren Howard
Lance Moore
Will Smith
Sproles
Devery
Meachem
Mike Bell
Strief (pre radio career)
Goodwin

Just a few. I left out a bunch but would like to hear your opinion and submissions.

Colston is beloved by Saints fans.

Jabari Greer is king in this category, imo.

Strief future Saints hall of famer?

Saints history, for sure. Not sure about NFL history.

He never had a 1,000 yard season or more than 10TD’s in a season.

Corey Dillon is what I think of when it comes to underrated.

quote:

Few running backs have amassed over 10,000 yards in their career and it’s not common knowledge that one of them is Cincinnati and New England running back Corey Dillon.

As one of the most productive backs in the last 25 years, he was consistently a threat to rush for over 100 yards per game and forced the defense to game-plan for him. In 2000 against Denver, he set, at the time, the single game rushing record, running for 278 yards on 22 carries, breaking Walter Payton’s 25 year-old record.

When he went to the Patriots in 2004, he not only rushed for a career-best 1,635 yards,

I don’t care. Outside of maybe Barry Sanders, PT is the best screen player of all-time. Don’t @me

Don’t care about stats? I’m confused with @ me when I’m just trying to have a conversation.

What’s so hard to comprehend?

Norman Hand
LeCharles Bentley (who I think would have been an all-time great if not for MRSA)
pretty much any Fullback we've ever had.

Underrated would have to mean, no fanfare from college yet put up huge numbers in the NFL...

First name to come to mind....

The Beer Man, Michael Lewis

Prior to his pro football career, Lewis was a Budweiser beer truck driver (thus, the nickname "Beer Man") whose truck route was a short distance from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Lewis never went to college.

In 2002, Lewis set an NFL record for combined kick-punt return yardage with 2,432 yards total (1,807 kickoff, 625 punt).[9] He is currently the Saints' all-time career leader in punt returns (142) and punt return yardage (1,482).

Mike McKenzie.

Wasn't amazing, but solid.

Bonus run was fun too.

Nice pull. Shockey was solid at that position too. At least for a memorable year.
LeCharles Bentley was an all time Goat at C. Jahri Evan’s too at G.

Darren Howard is a great one. First pick of the haslett era and really solid DE foe Saints. Yet probably forgotten among more casual Saints fans.

Colston I think depends on if you mean underrated by Saints fans or by nfl fans at large. I think he’s rightly rated and beloved as one of if not the best Saints WR of all time. Nationally he never got the respect he deserves and is underrated.

I personally think Scott shanle and fujita were underrated.

Damian Swann. He would’ve had a nice career if it wasn’t for those concussions

You better give some love to Willie Jackson. The REAL reason we won our first playoff game.
