Most encouraging thing is when he gets into trouble he seems to remember where some guys SHOULD be from the route tree
Brees was a master of this, and rookie Shough would try to scan the field for someone open while the sack clock was almost at 0
Now he seems to get free and knows to look to a certain spot because he remembers where a receiver should be

Glad we have him.
Have we figured out why he can't do this in the 1st half?
Some have said it's Moore's approach more than Shough's slow start, but he definitely struggled against Detroit in the 1st half. He looked better against Baltimore, just couldn't put it in the end zone.
I chalked up Detroit 1st half to his lack of live action in preseason.

He was pretty good in the first half against Baltimore

I think we need to find an elite guard or center who can change our line play.

This so much. Most inexperienced qbs would tuck and run, basically rattler through 14 games, not shough. Eyes are up and running is the last option.

Yes, Kurt Warner and Dan Orvlosky both spoke about this. I think they called it a blitz plan. They added that not all QBs function this way but Shough does.

The issue is not the tap, a lot of teams do this on the road. The issue is, as soon as he taps McCoy snaps the ball. A great vet center will tell you that you are supposed to vary the timing of the snap with the cadence or tap. Sometimes you do it right away, sometimes you wait a fraction of a second, a full second...
Of course, you also need to be aware of the clock; and it doesn't help that a lot of times Ruiz is tapping McCoy with less than 5 seconds on the play clock.

1st few drives are based off of scripted plays, trying to establish the gameplan, and seeing what the defense is doing.
Also, against Detroit, they talked about Sheppard running a lot of blitzes they had not seen on film yet. Against Balt, they were talking about how Balt kept changing their pre & post snap coverages. Both scenarios are a lot for any QB to adjust to, and we have a guy out there with less than a full season of starts. It is concerning, but as we get further into the season and there is more film out there; the team's presnap adjustments should start helping.

Started a little slow in the first two games of the season against quality opponents. Nothing to get overly concerned about
