PFF week 9 grades vs bucs
Posted on 11/5/17 at 5:14 pm
Posted on 11/5/17 at 5:14 pm
Refocused: New Orleans Saints 30, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 10
TOP 5 GRADES:
S Vonn Bell, 90.1 overall grade
DI David Onyemata, 84.6 overall grade
LB Manti Te’o, 83.7 overall grade
S Marcus Wiliams, 83.7 overall grade
Edge Alex Okafor, 83.4 overall grade
PERFORMANCES OF NOTE:
QB DREW BREES, 56.4 OVERALL GRADE
Brees finished 22-of-27 for 263 yards with a sack and a dropped pass, and he also had a fumble on a sack and very nearly threw an interception to Lavonte David in the first half. While most of Brees’ completions were of short or intermediate range, he did complete two deep passes including a beautiful touchdown on a seam route to put the game away. Brees was 3-of-3 on play action passes for 62 yards and had a touchdown as well.
WR TED GINN JR., 78.7 OVERALL GRADE
Ginn caught all four catchable passes thrown his way for 59 yards and a touchdown. Ginn connected with Brees for a deep completion of 36 yards running a seam route to effectively put the Bucs away.
S VONN BELL, 90.1 OVERALL GRADE
Making the most of his three pass-rushing snaps, Bell got to the quarterback twice with a sack and a QB hit. The former Ohio State Buckeye was excellent in coverage as he broke up a pass while allowing just two catches on three targets for 15 yards. The second-year player has had an up and down short career but broke through with his best game yet against Tampa Bay.
EDGE DEFENDER ALEX OKAFOR, 83.4 OVERALL GRADE
The former Arizona Cardinal is having a career-year as Okafor has already matched his sack total (four) from 2016 while doubling his QB hits to two. Against Tampa Bay, Okafor racked up a sack, two hits, and two hurries while also getting four defensive stops. Okafor has been great as a pass-rusher but arguably more impressive as a run stopper as his 9.5 run stop percentage ranks second among all qualifying 4-3 defensive ends.

So Lattimore gives up 1 pass and he is below 82?

A trend I'm noticing:
Onyemata started out last season and the beginning of this season struggling, as we'd expect a raw player like him to do.
But he's showed up in the eighties on PFF the last three weeks, I believe.

Would love for Vonn Bell to ball out and make it easy to part ways with Vaccaro after this season. Really don't want to give him big money.

They aren't really playing the same position. Vaccaro has been mostly in the nickel, while playing in the box some. Bell is playing more like Harper used to. Usually about 10 yards off but sometimes in the box.

Good comparison though I think Bell is better in coverage and isn't as physical as Harper was. But they're using him like Harper

He fumbled, threw it right to David, missed ginn deep and missed kamara open a couple times. Yes he was solid but he did make some mistakes that thankfully, didnt hurt us but did hurt his grade.

Okafor was unblockable
Von Bells best game as a Saint
Brees was off on 3-4 throws but was money the rest of the game. He made some nice throws. The one that stands out if the scramble and throw to fleener that went for a long gain

Yep. Pretty sure PJ Williams was playing a lot of nickel with Vaccaro out. I thought he did a good job. Vonn Bell was all over the place today.
I actually thought Banjo played good at safety today as well. Preseason is the only other time I've actually seen Banjo playing any non-special teams snaps. Not sure why he played over Bush, but it worked out.

My guess is they wanted to play Bell more, and have some Oline injuries so likely carried an extra lineman into the game and decided Banjo over Bush for special teams.
But I thought Banjo played well enough that he could take over for Bush. They basically did the same thing with Banjo they do with Bush.

Ahh. I didn't see the inactives for this week. I just assumed Bush got benched or something.

Why?
Probably b/c Vaccaro is going to command like 9mil a year in free agency. That & Bell/PJ Williams can probably get the job done between the 2 of them.
I was against signing Vaccaro a few weeks ago, but I'm starting to warm up to the idea. He's a very good player if he's used right. Retaining Vaccaro also makes our depth that much better in the secondary. It's nice to have PJ Williams coming off the bench (PJ is literally the backup to Lattimore & Crawley on the outside...also Vaccaro in the slot). PJ could start for some teams.
Also, we'll probably have to sign a vet F.A. or draft a safety if we don't re-sign Vaccaro. It would be nice to have some continuity in the secondary, b/c there's nothing worse than replacing a legit starter with a F.A. or draft bust.
