New Orleans Saints. Shocked at the Payton Turner choice, almost as surprising as Leatherwood going 17th. Maybe a bigger story: Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book going on pick 133. Uneasy lies the starting quarterback in New Orleans, whether it be Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill.

Ian Book comin' to take that starting QB role from either Jameis or Taysom

I take it to mean Payton's not truly sold on either Hill or Winston long-term, so he threw the Book at them.

Is he implying the Saints used a 4th on a rookie to replace Winston/Hill as the starter?

Basically but anyone with a brain knows that’s not true but it’s the kind of thing reporters love to hype for more content

He had to type something about the Saints in his article.
It's not his fault that he knows jack shite about the Saints compared to us. He's a national sports writer, & we really shouldn't take his opinion about the Saints very seriously.

It is a poor attempt to creatively connect the "Big Easy" NOLA moniker with drafting a relatively high/potential QB of the future and the current vets on the roster.
Basically the implication is Book makes Winston, Hill, and Siemian's jobs less secure.

Does that blowhard think a 4th round QB is coming in to take out two guys that Payton obviously believes in? Also, Letherwood was a huge reach. Turner's range was 20-40. Getting picked at 28 is not a reach, its just not great value.

i read that as; the staff is DESPERATE to find a QB so the current QB room should be "uneasy".

I won't pretend to be able to or want to be in the same mind as King, but I think he is speaking for the future of our QB situation. Hill is older and Winston is on a 1 year deal. Best case IMO Book is pushing for a starting shot next year.

If you have done any research on Peter King you know he is humongous piece of crap. His interview with Clay Travis completely exposed him for what he really is. A fraud.

This makes whatever else he says irrelevant. Clearly has no clue.

Then he didn’t do his homework.
When a meteorologist predicts rain and it doesn’t, does he start making media appearances talking about how stupid the weather is because it didn’t listen to him?

Should have read, Payton rolled the dice picking Book in the 4th round as the Saints need a competent 3rd QB due to the offensive role to Taysom Hill.

I think it was mentioned on this board that with Hill's contract coming due that they wanted a QB with a similar skill set to step in next year.

Book is not anything like Hill and never will be anything like him. Hill is 6’2 240 and runs a 4.4. Book is 6’0 210 and runs 4.65. There was some analysts that alluded to what you said and it was a bad take. Payton even said that was not the vision and pointed out Taysum’s measurables

Competent backup for this year and beyond. Whatever happens this year it is highly unlikely both Winston and hill are on roster for the 2022 season. Book is a 4th round flier that could turn into the long term back up option for the saints.
