Your comparing Luke McCown to a first ballot hall of famer.

From a one game view, Luke simply looked better than Drew has in some time. Luke made almost no bad decisions like Drew has increasingly made

The playcalling today seemed much better though. It kind of died down in the second half, but the first quarter was fricking awesome.

Hey guys, the play calling is good when it works and bad when it doesn't.

Not having Brees back there made Payton simplify the gameplan and the playbook.

I don't know if I'd call it simplified or not, but I will say is that Payton had to really gameplan this game and it looked pretty good, instead of the usual screen game. Only one game, but it was encouraging for me to see Payton adapt to his personnel and get back to what he really used to be like with Kerry Collins and Quincy Carter and made Luke McCown look pretty much like a starting NFL QB.

Side Note: I will gladly eat crow, Luke McCown looked good yesterday when I expected him to look like crap. That being said, if we continue losing I would turn to Grayson at some point to see what he's got

To be fair, McCown is the greatest QB we've seen in a Saints uniform since Drew Brees.

Not what he was saying. Drew going 5 WR with no RB in shotgun is obviously a passing down and eliminates half of your potential threat as an offense...something Sean calls a lot of especially on first down when we are moving the ball(this usually is a pretty good play for stalling drives).

It doesn't work with the current receiving corps. More times than not it puts us behind in down and distance or we get a penalty which puts us behind in down in distance.

Passing out of the I formation gives the QB more protection with more lineman and forces the defense to honor the running game. Simplified quick reads(something Drew is still elite at) and quick releases. With our WR talent we should keep as many of them off the field as possible.

Sean was more committed to keeping teams off balanced at times with the running game and this allowed the Saints to keep a good Carolina D off balanced for good portions of the game. We lost our rhythm on a couple drives when Sean got pass happy.

There were a couple good setup plays like putting Cooks in motion and "not" giving him the ball while running an attack on the A gap. The defense respected Cooks and froze to honor his speed while setting up a man on man block up the middle for a solid gain.

I said the same thing. Luke surprised the hell out of me yesterday and played some really good ball. I was more excited in that opening quarter for Saints football than I had been for quite some time. I felt like I was watching a Rocky movie or a Luke McCown commercial

"one game view" is the key phrase... Luke played a really good game. But he also had not started a game in years. He is completely fresh - no injuries, no bruises and aches from being hit due to a suspect O-line over and over, etc. Those things take a toll fast and many QBs start playing a different when they start feeling the effects of those things. They are suddenly not so relaxed and will put the ball up for grabs a lot quicker when they are in trouble in the pocket.

We were running quick throws all day. I hope we go to that style from here on it.

I think we were 1/3 on attempts past 20 yards with an interception. It was a safe but effective gameplan that protects the qb and helps mitigate our shitty oline

Also, Brees had some perfect games last year. Basically any game with protection

Always remember, this league is a film league. Very few teams have scouted our backup. If he remains a starter, his production will falter as more current film tendencies are revealed.

Breed is declining. But this team is just horrible! Holes are everywhere and vets like Colston just suck
