Saints had the right idea…. Draft high quality lineman …at key positions …to be the FOUNDATION of your team. This is how great teams are built !!

Problem is …. Above names represent “Five (5) First Round Draft picks and a 2nd” …..the return has been :

—-An average lineman in Ruiz.
—-Foskey showing nothing so far.
—- Remaining three (3) are a BUST !!!

Again, Saints had the right idea …. But picked the wrong guys.
Missing on 5 First Round Draft picks & a 2nd….has its implications…..

We need a rebuild .

Penning, Davenport, and Turner all had great physical ability but serious question marks. The bust possibility for all three was very high.

Worst part is the Saints repeated the Peat mistake in giving Ruiz a long-term contract extension.

Foskey was a 2nd rounder.

Don’t disagree with your premise though. Gotta win the trenches to win football games. Great concept investing in it, but those investments have been horrendous.

Hoping Breese and Fuaga buck that trend

We need to stop drafting guys with injury histories. God knows our staff can't keep anyone healthy!

Right now I would say Ruiz is one of the few who can spell 'blocking'.

Penning, Davenport and Turner were all reaches. They could have gotten them later in the draft. The Saints go cute and thought they were smarter than the rest of the league.

Turner was an absolute reach, but I wouldn’t say any of the other players mentioned were. I wouldn’t say any of them were value picks either, but they all went around when they were expected to go. Add in the fact that they traded up for Davenport though, and that’s a different story.

The guy has played 2 years and everyone is calling him a bust lol. Sometimes it takes time to aclimate especially if you are coming from an FCS team. You draft based on upside with DL and OL.

The saints traded up for him and identified him as one of the 20 best players in the draft. There’s no more waiting

Penning is a bust, but a lot of people had him graded high.

Davenport and Turner were reaches.

Thise two and Foskey are offset by Chase Young. That signing could he huge. Young and Granderson are great DE talents with an aging Jordan backing them up. Either Turner or Foskey just need to be rotational players at this point.

Ruiz is fine.

We don’t know what Turner is yet. Disappointing return on the draft pick thus far, yes

Both Davenport and Turner are immensely talented. Turner can’t stay healthy and Davenport hates football. Foskey, who knows.

Davenport was the best player on our defense in 2021, which is why everything was so disappointed with the way it ended.
