Terrible take. Pay attention more. It's always been clear that Penning needed time to transition from Northern Iowa to the NFL. His run blocking is fine but he needs more time pass blocking. But you dont pass up drafting your future left tackle because he needs more time to develop more. There was only one game ready tackle available in the draft and he got picked before the Saints.
Hurst has been penciled as the starting LT all year. Now he needs to get better and be ready to roll.
And don't ignore that Olave is ready to go and already WR3. This draft was fine. Penning was a much better pick then Ruiz a few years ago.

There are future LTs every year.
We should have just dealt up from our original pick to get Olave and saved a ton of capital and assessed the LT value next year.
This was all a terrible combination of moves in terms of value if Penning wasn't even starting. If you make the "we are in win now mode" argument it tilts the value assessment a bit, but he has to be the clear starter for that argument to work.

You r still playing checkers, the Saint are playing chess.
Chris will be a #2 receiver by mid year. On this team it would be hard to be #1 with Mike around.
A receiver of his caliber In free agency would cost 20mil, Saint have 5 years of much lower cost.
Swapping #1 where we get #11 and we will give a #20 something is a great deal.
The extra #2 and so on was because Philly figured they would be getting a late #1 just looking at our team.
Trevor will be a dominant linemen. He is already a superior run blocker probably tops on our team behind Peat.
Once he gets his feet wet in pass blocking we have or future LT.
LT picked ahead of him are struggle and it's the nature of the position.
So learn some patience the Saints are making all the right moves right now.

If they do surgery which I’m sure they will he will be out most of the year if not all of it. I would say 2 months is the best possible outcome if he doesn’t do surgery but if it’s already being touted as a bad case of turf toe he’s headed for the operating table. Regardless though he’s starting the season on IR and Derrick Kelly just almost assuredly made the team as the backup LT unless they see Peat doing that but I hope not. Peat is terrible at tackle but he’s serviceable at guard at least.

It wasnt that play. Penning was hurt after the previous play, you can easily see it on replay
