re: No one is talking about how the 2012 Colts suceeded under similar conditions

Colts deserve a lot of props for what they've achieved this year. Granted I don't know how their SOS, stacks up, they didn't deal with this off the field controversy and all that but none the less... the colts should be proud for what they've done this year.

I've thought about this topic a lot. The Colts have done great and deserve many props for the impressive season they've had.
That said, I think the biggest difference is that the Saints had an established foundation that was absolutely rocked by the suspensions of three key guys (CSP, Vitt and Loomis). The Colts really had nothing established under a rookie head coach in Pagano, so there really were no adjustments to be made in playing without him.
There are obviously other things, but IMO, that's the major difference.

Come on Pectus.
a 2-14 team with a new QB and no "sanctions" playing a last place AFC schedule =/= the 2012 Saints debacle.

Well said, Chad.

Colts 2012 team has alot more heart than the Saints 2012 team.

ill agree with that. ill also say the colts were given a rallying point while we were given a distraction.

1. they do have their head coach. He backed off to deal with his circumstances but I'm sure he has had ongoing communication with Arians. He'll be back full bore shortly too.
2. QB-wise the fairer comparison would be what would the Saints record be if there was no Brees this year? (like no Manning there in '11). I'd say it would have been closer to the Colts 2 win 2011 year. From 2 wins this year with no Brees then an 8 win improvement (like Indy this yr) would be no stretch at all.
3. We're not even getting to loss of draft picks, the backup HC gone too, and the GM on top of that
So while there are some threads of comparison to be had the overall picture and circumstances are much different.

You know how the colts drafted Andrew Luck?
You know what the saints didn't have this year?
The answers are similar

Didn't you know that we gained a 1st rounder when we picked up ingram?
I wish I could find that 11 page thread of arguing how many picks we used on ingram.
you did catch me in a brain fart, but the colts still had a 2nd rounder. And Coby Fleener has been all over espn with his highlights. Hes gonna blow Jimmy Graham out of the water.

I think that it's at least worth a minute or 2 to think about. Granted the situations are slightly different.
I have a feeling that Saints fans just throwing out "Our situation is worse" are going to be in for a rude awakening next year. The Saints aren't just miraculously going to be a 10+ win team next year because SP and ML are back. Honestly, some of you are saying that ML makes a difference during the season? Please - you're grasping children.
I'll admit - losing SP all season has hurt, but some of you are overblowing his role. Did CSP drop all those passes that Jimmy Graham caught last season but wasn't this year? Or did he throw all of those INTs Drew did? Or did he give up all of those yards this season on D? Could he have made a difference, absolutely! Could it also not have mattered a single shite? Absolutely.

Do you really think that it is a considered a miracle that losing all contact with your head coach and offensive coordinator and playcaller would cost you 2-3 games?
give me a break, I was gonna break down your post more but I got this far and my head hurts now.

It's a similarity that other teams didn't have present... so yes, you can compare it. C'mon - how far do you want to split hairs?!
They also play in different cities, have different color jerseys, have different players, are in different climates, have a different lattitude and longitude, etc.
To completely dismiss it without even thinking about the small amount of similarities just seems ... dumb.

Please let the Saints play in a division featuring the Titans and Jaguars and see how they do.

Disadvantages
Colts:
Rookie QB (one tauted as #1 pick for like 3 years)
Bad season last Season (lost franchise qb to injury so no suprise that they bounced back hard)
New Regime
Coach has medical issues going into regular season, cannot attend games or practices for majority of season.
Saints:
-Lost Offensive playcaller/coordinator/head coach
cannot attend games, offseason, practice, anything for entirety of 2012 nfl season. Cannot have any contact with anyone in the entirety of the NFL
-Lost GM and Next in line coach for partial season
-Lost 2nd round draft pick
-Slander and media circus surrounding team for season
I guess it is only slightly different

I was referring to the 2nd round draft pick for the 2014 draft. I don't recall if y'all lost your 2nd rounder this year - I believe y'all did... so in that case, yes, that would hurt some as well.

how is losing a 2nd round draft pick before a season starts not a bad thing?!!?
I disagree that the media circus didnt effect the team, but there's no real facts to prove this either way......
So how are the situations similar? You didnt even address that.
It just sounds like a butthurt atl fan whining honestly
