NFL Officiating: What's The Solution?

We all see the problem: horrendous, biased, tone-deaf, inconsistent enforcement of the league "rules".
When it finally financially impacts the NFL, and it will eventually, what's the solution?
I think a start would be to make officials financially effected by their errors, just like players are penalized.
Add that up the chain all the way to the commissioner. Until their is accountability all the way to the top, this issue will persist.

It starts at the top with Roger Goodell. Since the owners don't have the guts to do anything about him since they are all making so much money, nothing will happen & there is no accountability for him. It is a vicious cycle & nothing will be done unfortunately.

How about making it a full time job for starters.

This to begin.
But they're should also be a committee that grades each and every ref's performance on a week-to-week basis and those reports should be made public.

LOL, What’s to fix? Really? NFL is entertainment. Officiating allows the league to control outcomes in order to maximizes profit. Officiating will make sure the league makes as much money as possible and the owners will continue to pay Roger his millions. Most fans suffer from cognitive dissonance. Just because you don’t want to believe it doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

Make them full time but they need to be swapped out roughly every 10 years or so.
There seems to be a combination of things which none of them are good.
1. They are incompetent
2. They are jaded after doing this for so long
3. Their ego got hurt with the new PI rule.
4. They favor certain teams/players
Regardless....they need terms.

Accountability and transparency. Make them answer for their calls, review them, fire them when they repeatedly mess up. Make them sit in postgame interviews and answer questions. Reward them when they do good, penalize them when they don’t.

Seeing refs have to go and answer media questions is a great idea

Penalties are just being callled for the slightest of infractions. It needs to be for blatant holds, blatant PI, etc. I remember watching the LSU game and saying many times, “if this was the NFL, they would have flagged that”

NFL IS JUST ENTERTAINMENT=WWF

1. Full time refs
2. Consequences for egregious misses (I'm talking paychecks or portions of it). Reviewed weekly by an independently hired group

The nerd in me added up the flags that have been thrown on the Saints so far this year..86 flags..I don't know if that is above average or not..

It's too subjective and inconsistent. Refs let their biases affect the calls.
If the NFL wants to get serious about it, they need to use technology and take some of the guesswork out of it. Sensors in the ball and kneepads to mark forward progress and when a player is down. Sensors on the sidelines combined with sensors in shoes would help with in-bounds/out-of-bounds calls.
For PI, contact with a player for more than 2 seconds would trigger a sensor. And so on.
Eliminate holding calls because it happens on every play. Penalty only for chokeholds.
Take as much leeway as possible away from the refs.

Refs are doing what they’re told.

They are doing exactly what they are instructed to do. Results are predetermined, and since even those owners Roger fricks over are receiving millions of dollars in revenue and the value of their franchises continues to escalate, they DGAF. It’s entertainment, pure and simple. No different than the WWE, just higher pay for the actors and more at stake financially.

So if the “full-time” official gets fired what does he do for a living then?

3rd party officiating company (or companies)hired by the NFL.

Saints need to put bounties on officials. Let players start knocking down and running over officials on “accident”.
Heck Carolina can shove officials and nothing happens.
