Seems their HC will be staying

The #Chargers fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, sources tell me and @RapSheet.

A big move by Brandon Staley, who should have candidates lining up for a chance to work with Justin Herbert.

Horrendous coaching in that second half. Shouldn't have even made the plane ride home.

So, that would make him available for a lateral move to wherever Payton goes; which means Payton doesn't need Pete?

Staley's rise to NFL head coach has really been absurd. It's not like he took over a bad/talent-less defense in LA in 2020. He took over a start studded super defense that had been great previously under Wade.

This is why the NFL has become a joke. Even McVay is overrated as hell since all his team did was mortgage their future for 1 title and being gifted another super bowl appearance by blatant league cheating.

If Payton hires him right back does he collect on two contracts?

Although the offense went conservative in the 2nd half but the defense going to basic prevent was the issue in allowing Lawrence and the Jags to make that historic come back.

The defense decided to lay back 10-15yards as opposed to the 1st half of sitting on the 5-10yard routes.

Does the DC survive this also?

Lol using him as a scapegoat. Staley is 100% the problem on that team. They are just running on talent and winning inspite of him. Dude might have less of an impact than Dennis Allen. He just stands there looking like a lame duck.

Lombardi got scapegoated.

Staley is squarely on the hot seat now.

also think it's funny that Herbert never seems to draw all that much criticism.

Staley playing his starters into the 4th quarter in a meaningless week 18 game should have gotten him fired. Mike Williams getting hurt and them having to play Keenan Allen, Palmer and practice squad WRs played a part in the melt down.
