Right, and the saints don’t have a 7th rd pick.
So you might see them go for a guy in the 6th they really want.
UDFA is going to be weird this year too without having all the visits available. Saints usually treat that as a recruitment for guys they like that they think will go undrafted.

2.0
If they wanted to go LB in the 1st:
1.24 Patrick Queen LB 6'0" 229 LSU
We all know the drill here. Queen's calling card is his athleticism. Sideline to sideline tackler, great in coverage. Very young(20yo) and new to position, in relative terms. Best football is head of him. Needs to work on tackling form & stopping power. I do think people just assume he will be available; I honestly dont know. I think theres a 65% chance he goes before the Saints pick.
Pro Comps: Eric Kendricks, Roquan Smith
3.88 Bryan Edwards WR 6'2" 212 South Carolina
Pinpointing the available WRs in the 3rd is hard. Someone is going to drop(Claypool? Hamler? Shenault? Higgins even?), probably multiple players. There are just so many good ones, I feel like teams will keep saying "lets wait", as other positions start to thin out. Edwards is a guy slipping under the radar cause he was hurt for the SR bowl and combine.
Edwards is a big target, strong YAC player, similarly built to Michael Thomas. Not exactly a big play deep threat, but great in the middle of the field and out-routes like Thomas. Has some body catching concerns. Everything Ive read, he would go late to mid 2nd RD in normal drafts, if healthy.
Pro Comps: Michael Floyd, Eric Decker
4.130 Kevin Dotson OG 6'4" 310 ULL
4 year starter at RG for ULL. Dotson is a punishing blocker in the run game. As one scout said it, "moves defenders like a pissed off club bouncer". He's competitive in the pass game, but needs work. Older player, will be 24 in September.
Pro Comps: Chris Snee, Ben Grubbs
5.169 L'Jarius Sneed CB/S 6'0" 192 La Tech
2020 is going to be a great year for Louisiana kids in the draft, as this is the 3rd one that shows up in this mock. Sneed turned heads with a 4.37 40 at the combine. Played FS for 3 years, but teams are projecting him at CB. Has some length and ball skills that teams hope to develop. More of a straight line athlete. Worst case, he is a special teams ace.
Pro Comps: Richard Marshall, Ahmad Carrol
6.203 Joe Reed WR 6'0" 224 UVA
Reed is a thick bodied WR, built like a RB. He's the best KO returner in the draft, but also flashed playing the slot. He's unpolished, but once the ball is in his hands, he makes shite happen. I could see them deploying him in multiple ways. Wildcat, RB, WR, KO return. Needs to learn route running & isnt great tracking deep passes. He is a super poor mans AJ Brown.
Pro Comps: Quincy Enuwa, really really poor mans AJ Brown

I would be totally satisfied with either of your 2 drafts.
The only change that I would make is a different lb in your first mock because of the injury history.
Thumbs up Lester

I get it. The injury risk is there but that is kind of what you want in the 4th rd.
Cause a “safe” pick in the 4th is pretty much a career backup.
That’s something they’ll have to weigh, obviously.

Like the 2nd draft better

I want him more and more in a Saints uniform as the days go by. A truly good second corner does a lot for a defense

Joe Reed would be a great 6th Round pick.

Really not sure how I feel about Edwards. He feels kind of slow to me.

Love Joe Reed- think he's the sleeper of the WR group
Have watched every collegiate snap of Gladney. He is a stud CB. The fact of the matter is that he's the most competitive guy in this CB, backs down from absolutely no one, and is a relentless competitor. If he were 6'1 he would be the top corner in this class. I thought he was 6'1 his entire time at TCU and he measued at 5'10 or so which dinged him.
He doesnt have prototypical size which is why he's 3-4 CB on most boards. But he makes up for that with this competitive nature, his smarts and understandings of a defense, and good ball skills. He torched many of these "stud" big 12 receivers that are about to be selected highly in this draft. Absolutely sauteed Ceedee Lamb in Norman, holding him to a whopping 2 catches.
He has long arms and a great wingspan. Has gotten a lot smarter since he was a Freshman. If you gave me the choice of Gladney in the 23-32 range or CJ Henderson at 9, it's Gladney 10/10 times. He'll be a much better player than Henderson in 2 years.

I thought Michael Thomas looked a little slow coming out. Not that he couldn’t be effective. But not 150catch effective lol.
They win in different ways. Edwards has some Dez Bryant in him. But no, not really a blazer

Supposedly the people at University of South Carolina speak about Edwards like he's royalty. I don't know enough about him but everyone likes him

Could go number of different ways at WR in 3rd tho
Duvernay- straight line slot guy, good YAC
Claypool- Evan engram type tweener
Van Jefferson- intermediate technician
KJ Hill- intermediate technician
Antonio Gibson- prob more of a RB
Colin Johnson- oversized field stretcher
Lynn Bowden- Swiss Army knife
James Proche- slot killer
Gabe Davis- big bodied outside WR

I was going to start a thread on midround WRs but this seems like a good place to discuss it.
I’ve been eyeing Duvernay a good bit.

Van Jefferson is the smoothest route runner I've ever seen. Torched Stingley and some of his routes are utterly disgusting

Van Jefferson 45g SEC. 23y 9mo
175catches, 2159yds 16td
Bryan Edwards 48g in SEC. 21y 5mo
243catches, 3045yds, 22td
I do like Jefferson too. But I think he’s capped at what he is.

Duvernay is powerful for his size, & is obviously fast, but man he’s stiff. Doesn’t really have that lateral juice. I see the appeal. Strong hands, too.
Let’s play This-not-that tho.
If we are talking slot guys.
Lynn Bowden. Would need a little development, but could also get touches in other ways.
Or James Proche.

Some of those aren’t bad for WRs. Skill position guys often do not do well on the wonderlic, notoriously so.
Calvin Johnson did get like a 41 or something though.

What do you think of Mooney?
Posted on 4/19/20 at 4:02 pm to Fun Bunch
I like Mooney a lot. More of a weapon vs a receiver
He’s gaining some steam tho. I think he will go in 5th but wouldn’t surprise me if 4th.
Maybe I’m overshooting that. I still see some spots where he is a priority FA. I think he has a skill teams covet
