New Orleans Saints star receiver Michael Thomas has played just 10 games over the past three seasons, but he’s set to make his return this season, and it sounds like he’s excited about the possibility of playing alongside new quarterback Derek Carr.
Last week, Derek Carr made it clear that he already had a great relationship with Michael Thomas, revealing that Thomas was a big reason he ultimately signed with the team. And now, Thomas is reciprocating those feelings.
“Oh, he’s been amazing,” Thomas said according to Katherine Terrell of ESPN. “Amazing. I can’t wait to play with him and just be out there and execute and create something special with him, a connection, you know? Just like, the way he demands the huddle, the sense of urgency, just the way he handles himself, he’s a pro.
“He’s great for these young guys to see, his demeanor. Just everything, just watching him, from when he gets in the building. Kind of how Drew [Brees] was, you could watch Drew … you could learn from him, the locker room you could learn from him.”
Thomas raved about Carr, saying “He wants to win just like I want to win.”
“He’s just very disciplined. He’s on top of his stuff. He came here for a reason,” Thomas said. “That’s the same type of confidence I hear in his voice — he came here for a reason, he came here to win. You can feel the sense of urgency. He loves ball. It’s not hard working with him. … He tells me what to do, I tell him where I’m going to be, and we’re on the same page. We can execute at a high level.”
It will be interesting to see how the two are able to work together this coming season.

Just watch the interviews on YT, they’ve been up since last week. Never understood why people would rather quotes from some rando journalist

These kinds of interviews always make me wince because they are so close to throwing another teammate (like Winston & Dalton) under the bus, whether it's truthful/deserved or not. Whatever you say is special about your new teammate, you are indirectly saying your old one doesn't have those qualities.
At the end of every quote below, just add "...unlike Winston or Dalton."
It reminds me of Carr's recent interview/reveal that he wouldn't have come here if Cam & Demario hadn't already made him feel like they wanted & needed him, indirectly exposing the fact that Jordan/Davis had seen enough of Winston/Dalton experiment.

I think anybody with eyes has seen enough of that.

hell, before the carr signing, half of the long time posters on ST were still sucking winstons cock and they were wanting him to be resigned as our starting QB over dalton.
now they want to deny ever doing that

Carr is a big underneath passer so he should have a really good connection with MT who is the the 7 yard slant king. If Thomas is healthy I know he and Juwan Johnson will play very well with Carr, as will Kamara. They are all big targets or underneath playmakers that Carr will get comfortable with easily. The big question for me is how Carr is going to mesh with Olave and Shaheed who are our big over the top playmakers downfield. I still think the Saints need to find a new head coach, I doubt DA will ever be a good HC. He is a top 5 DC in the NFL that has good schemes and has had a good eye for talent but he’s not the guy you want running the team. Our roster is very solid though. The players aren’t my worries on this team. I have zero confidence Carmichael is capable of running a top offense without Sean. He was very happy in his role of OC in title only and as Payton’s top assistant on offense. I think he knew he was in over his head last year.

Yes because Dalton fricking sucked and should have never been starting. fricking start Hill at that point and at least make the games exciting.

Carr is a middling QB who has catchable pass rates routinely ranking in the low-to-mid 20's as far as starting QBs go. To boot, he gets worse in the red zone (he's historically bad, actually).
Don't let some training camp fluff fool you. Carr is better than Winston but not by much.

This is the first time I have heard this about Carr, which metric are you referring to? When looking at On-Target percentage or Bad Throw percentage, he was closer to a top 10 passer (until last year under McDaniels) from 2019 - 2022; per pro-football-reference (their data doesn't track this stat before 2019)
On-Target % (rank); Bad Throw % (rank); # of QBs ranked
2019: 82.6% (2), 11.0% (2); out of 32
2020: 78.9% (10), 16.0% (16); out of 35
2021: 77.4% (12), 15.6% (8); out of 31
2022: 71.8% (27), 20.0% (30); out of 33

Saying he's mid and terrible in the red zone isn't shitting on him, it's an honest critique of his play.

Thanks.
Wonder how they rank catchable vs a site like pfr ranking as on-target throw. Looking at the historical, looks like he's more middle of the road (15th) than routinely in the low to mid 20s
2017: 80.6% (5)
2018: 79.9% (15)
2019: 80.3% (16)
2020: 76.6% (21)
2021: 79.2% (11)
2022: 75.9% (22)
Regardless, still an improvement over what we have/had, and should be better than most in the NFC

I agree he’s better than Winston. I’m far more confident going into a season with Carr than I was Winston. I genuinely dislike everything about Winston- his play, his personality. Carr is far more mature.
That said, Carr’s ceiling is higher than Dalton by a decent amount but the floor is just as catastrophic. He makes throws that someone who’s been in the league as long as he has shouldn’t make and it’s not just a 2022 thing.
I want Derek Carr to succeed because I’m a Saints fan. But I’ve watched enough of him to know I need to be honest and temper my expectations.

Carr has been through 6 different head coaches, 4 different off. coordinators and 3 different GM's. He has averaged per year just under 4000 pass yds., 24 tds. against 11 interceptions and carried a 92 QB rating throughout his career in what is likely the most difficult position in the most competitive sport on the planet. He is considered to be a very tough, gritty and intelligent QB that is seemingly respected by both former and current teammates. So I think I'll take a pass on your fluff narrative. There is no doubt in my mind that Carr is a better QB than either Dalton or Winston and very little doubt that this will be a better offense and a better team overall with him on the roster.
