What you alls thought on S-Tyler Nubin teaming back up with in the Saints defensive backfield? There's a many a slip between a cup and a lip but he could be available in the 2nd.
Maybe a target in the late 1st fi Mickey does the unthinkable and trades back in the first.

Probably just a nubin of a chance.

We really, really need to take our cap medicine for a season or two.

We really should kick the vets and try to develop for the next few years but idk if we can put that much faith to develop players with the incompetence they have shown so far

Mathieu brings some value at least. Maye is being outplayed by howden.
This is why I said what I said, branch would have been great because he's a strong safety/ncb. Alas whatever.
I can see maye being asked to take a paycut or cut outright.

Due to some creative Loomising, moving on from either only saves $1.5M against the cap. If they want to move on from the 2, it’ll probably need to be done over 2 years (maybe this year, Matthieu next)

Good to see someone speaking the King’s English. Don’t see that too often these days.

It’s for the best. Howden is a starting safety and it would be great to find another mid round gem to pair with him to help save us money and get us out of cap hell. We really need to find a pass rush too. Don’t care where it comes from but Breese and Granderson need help. The real question is what happens with Baun now that we have finally let him rush the passer like he did at Wisconsin. It only took 4 years.

It's actually just a quote from the movie Young Guns that stuck with me.

I fully expect the Saints 1st round pick to be an edge rusher or OT whichever is the highest rated player at the pick. There should be a few very good options at Edge in the mid to upper mid 1st round.

Marcus Maye (2024 Cap number $9,914,000) post June 1st cut counts $2,414,000 in 2024 dead money (Saving $7,500,000)
Tyrann Mathieu (2024 Cap Number $12,000,000) post June 1st cut counts $3,067,000 in 2024 dead money (Saving $9,000,000)
Moving on from both after June 1st costs, $5,481,000 (Saving $16,500,000 against the 2024 cap.)
They're both gone unless Loomis has completely lost his mind. Howden, Abrams and a rookie will more than suffice considering the cap savings.

Maye is most likely gone. Could take near vet min. and try to secure a spot in camp.TM should take a cut/restructure but could stay either way if we are not deep enough. I think we are.

That all makes sense, but the problem is the team needs to make moves to get under the cap by mid-March. Even if they designate both as June 1st cuts and move on before March; the entire dead money will need to count against the 2024 cap until June 1st. Then they get the relief from the designation.
I wouldn't necessarily think he's lost his mind; I think he may just be stuck with his back against the wall. Especially if Ram needs to retire. I have no doubt that he has all of these moves planned out years in advance, but when you throw out so many bad contracts; there is no amount of pre-planning that can allow you to make up for them.

Do saints get cap relief if ram has to retire?

If medically retired I understand that his whole signing bonus would come due immediately. ~$29mil I think. In which case the Saints would have to renegotiate his deal to allow for him to make the vet min and spread the signing bonus over 2024 and 2025. Like Brees did.

I think the Saints can renegotiate their contract to transfer salary to signing bonus ( getting them under the March cap) and allowing the signing bonus to be spread out in 2024 and 2025. This adds dead years but likely only negligibly adds dead money.
Something else people need to prepare their emotions for is that Derek Carr's contract will be restructured and kicked out to provide cap space. No real way around it.

I write "Kameran Kinchens: no matter what" on a yellow sticky note and put it in my pocket.
